Can you leave them in the pot now, but kept outside:)? Inside the garage those Semps will get crazy etiolated. TBH I'm still repotting things. Keeps my mind clear and relaxes me;). If they were mine I would repot them in a grittier mix and not wait till spring, but I live in a different climate;).

I would plant them out but keep an eye to make sure they don't frost heave.

Alternatively you could leave them in the pots and put them in the shade-maybe throw some leaves on them.

I am in similar zone as you. Most of my Semps are in containers and overwinter outdoors. I repotted quite a few about week ago, into containers. If you make sure mix is very well draining, they should be OK. Worse would be freezing rain - it happened to me when it crusted over tops of pots. I took most of ice off and there was no problem, but couple of pots I forgot were left with thick ice on. 2 days later it turned warmer, and pots were full of water for days. Few semps rotted in those 2 pots, but not all.

I do not protect them but some ppl put branches from evergreens over after it gets really cold. I don't know if it work but imagine it would. Leaves as Dave suggested would work too.

First, thank you all for very good pointers... I will put them in a gravely spot where it should drain well and I will put some leaves over them. There is a tree nearby so it should shade it so it doesn't thaw and refreeze over and over. Just trying to keep them dormant and not sitting in water ;)

Kara, I'm quite envious of your warm climate! I got to see San Fran for a day in early October and weather was perfect to see Golden Gate Park. So beautiful :) I hear ya about the relaxing part... until realizing it takes hours to water them (at least when they are indoors).

Dave, they will be out of reach so crossing fingers I get them settled right!

Rina, yeah I don't trust that I can get them through the winter as they are in peat based pots...will go with a gritty home for them.
