Comments (13)Oh, gosh no, Drippy. :O) I can't put your Rose of Sharons on our property after discovering that the deers love them. They are at my mother's place three hours drive away and are doing quite well. They did start blooming last year actually, even though they were still small. Although my parents have 10 acres, the deers don't bother them. It probably has to do with the river which flows alongside and the cliff which edges their property. Mom placed them with two other ROSs that she started from cuttings and she loves them! They certainly went to a great place. Their property is beautiful with mature trees, shrubs, and gardens. When having breakfast in the mornings you can watch the rabbits and pheasants meander on the front lawn. So peaceful....See MoreNewYear Buds-Finally!
Comments (13)HA HA Showing Off My New Year's Bloomers!! After a warm sunny day at the pool... From 2010-2011 Amaryllis Fairytale put on a bit of a rosey blush... From 2010-2011 Amaryllis and Misty looks downright flushed as she opens against the evening sky... From 2010-2011 Amaryllis For pollen, I have some stolen...err um...borrowed Matterhorn dust to try with Fairytale. Fairytale is new to me so I know not what to expect. For Misty, I saved some Trentino pollen...They are trumpets with the same shades, but in varying depths. But at least it's something. I may give Misty some Matterhorn too. Misty was a good pollinator and parent in the past for me....we shall see!!!...See MoreAfter 14 years it finally bloomed!!!
Comments (18)Thanks for the responses. I'm glad to hear that it normally blooms in the second year and that it will bloom after being cut back. Tammy sent a blurb from the tropical forum where a woman said she grew several Rangoon vines and those with less sun did not bloom much. This one doesn't get a whole lot of sun so that's probably why it hasn't bloomed before. Not sure why it decided to bloom this year -- maybe to tip me off to try it in a sunnier spot -- if I can find one. Omar, with so many trees in my own and in the neighbor's yards I don't really have a full sun spot to put the purple loosestrife in, but it's not as stubborn as the Creeper it's gonna' bloom anyway -- any day now -- can hardly wait :-) Thanks for the tip. I'll be sure to keep it in the pot, even though there are no soggy boggy conditions within many miles for it to escape to....See MoreRed Horn Tree and Break Dancer!
Comments (71)Hi, Ben! Very happy to meeting you here. How do you do? It's hard to argue with the pathfinder. You're the first to assign this cultivar of "Maruba". I studied later and realized the Japanese add this word with the meaning Ovata. Yes, the Japanese call all Jades the "Kagetsu". The corresponding hieroglyph means "Moon Flower" in Chinese, and is read as "Kagetsu" in Japanese. And it seems still to me that the country of origin of the "Kagetsu" is China, no Japan. You are named this variety "Maruba" for many years and accustomed to this name. So I'm not right, I guess, when trying to accustom you to another name. Nobody renames "kangaroo" now. Although everyone knows at present that it means "I don't understand you" in the aboriginal language (lol). Oksana....See MoreRockdale (RI Z6)
