do you need a dining room space in there? will you be watching tv in there? how many will use on a nightly basis? what else do you want to have in there.

Looks like a pretty long space. In that case, you can make it into two functional areas, such as a sitting area and a small office (if you keep your office organized). Rugs can help too define one or both of the areas, and putting the seating close together, rather than pushed apart against the walls will give the seating area a defined and intimate feel.

Good afternoon . Look at my interior options for your room.

We have a dedicated office and dining room already so no need for another one. We are a family of 3 (2 adults and 1 child) and this room will get the most use as we are not the type to hang out in our bedrooms. This room will also have the only TV in the house as well (60"). We want to put an 'L' shaped couch or a sofa and a side chair of some type so when we have guests over we are not all sitting on one couch. I just noticed in my earlier post there was an error, my budget for this room is $5,000. I love the idea of doing two separate areas and maybe the nook as a library...what's the best way to position the rugs to make this look cohesive..and should the rugs match or is that weird?

I feel like I'm missing something. In the pics, based on your description, we see the front door and the door to the master bedroom. Is there another door? How do you get to the rest of the house? Kitchen? Dining room? If there's another door, it's going to affect any recommendations for furniture layout.

How much space is there from the front door to the end wall (opposite the master bedroom door)?

Right now we have a couch that is 93.50"W x 47.25"D x 36.00"H on that wall (front door to wall opposite master) and there is extra space, I will measure the exact length when I get home later. There is a long hallway next to the nook that opens up to the guest bathroom and kitchen. I marked the photos below so you can see where the hallway is.

most do not recommend sectionals, they tend to be awkward and are difficult to work with most of the time. the three of you are used to being close so a sofa would be comfortable for you with a ottoman if you like. place 2 chairs in there. then have a second seating area over by the windows or in the library. i am sorry, i can not get a good idea on the measurements. and your rugs need to smile at each other not be identical.

OK. Got the measurements. 9' 8" from the front door to the end wall. I also took a measurement from the front door to the wall opposite the front door (leading the hallway where the I put the blue lines in picture 2), it's 11'.

I'd probably make the space to the right of the front door the main seating area. Sofa to the right of the front door under the window, end table in the corner, loveseat (if it fits) or chair on the end wall under the window, another end table in the other corner. TV opposite the sofa. Depending on how much seating you want, you could put a second sofa opposite the first with the TV mounted on the wall above, or two chairs instead of the sofa. You might be able to float a chair in the middle of the room facing the end window, but I think it might interfere with the traffic flow from the front door to the DR and kitchen.

The opposite end of the room would then be its own space.

that is much the way i was thinking. I am not sure the chair would fit there. but if we do a second seating area in the little alcove and bring chairs out as needed for company.
