Lighting Design Dilemma Bathrooms

Placement of Bathroom Wall Sconces

We are building a new bathroom. So I'm placing bathroom mirror and wall sconces from scratch. One measurement I can't find an answer to is the minimum okay distance between the sconce and a perpendicular wall. For example, our vanity is in the corner of the bathroom. If I have a 30" mirror, 3" between the edge of the mirror and the inner edge of the sconce, and a 5" wide sconce, then I am left with 5" between the outer edge of the sconce and the perpendicular wall. Is 5" too close?

Five inches may be enough. Will the bulb be visible or shades? If it's too close, and a high wattage, it could blacken/soot the wall.

How wide is the vanity? Are you planning to center the mirror/sconces with the vanity?

No, it's not too close. Do dour and four inches. Five and three is eight, and so is four and four.

I am trying to figure out the optimum task lighting for our Master Bathroom. We have a 96" vanity, and my husband wants a big mirror - his only request :) I was going to go with two long light fixtures above the mirror, but after reading EVERYWHERE about how vertical sconces are the best for task lighting, I am thinking of going with 4 vertical sconces mounted on the mirror. I have fairly large vessel sinks - 25" wide, and am thinking of placing the sconces near the outer edge of the sink - so the distance between them will be about 2'. Will that be too close? I stripped many brass painted fixtured with rubbing alcohol I think vinegar or even mineral spirtits might work. I took the fixtures off the wall. The ones Ihave done so far are not as ornate as your beautiful ones. I still need to do my bathroom art deco ones that are more like yours but other things keep needing fixing first. i got almost all paint off this one but my Dh got some ceiling paint on it last week lol I like patina so the imperfections do not bother me that much.

I suggested just splitting the distance and smack dab in the middle between wall and mirror, ( 8" ) BTW....... watch the specs for required box as many need a smaller one, and these should be NARROW and un bulky looking in any scenario.
