I'm glad he matched the head heights of original windows on the front. Maybe this would work better if he cantilevered out a small "box bay" of about 12 inches or so, out to roof overhang, to give it a little more definition and importance. By keeping it in the same plane as old garage door, I think it may say too much "converted garage". And obviously get rid of driveway leading up to it (can certainly keep driveway for part of way for guest parking and such) and heavily landscape! Good luck.

I think they work fine. A picture of the whole house would help to compare. I think it would have made more sense to use the same dimensions as the windows on the rest of the house. Either two that size or one with matching shutters. I agree with your builder about the picture window. You want it to match the house as much as possible.

They look okay to me as well. I do like the idea of a box-bump out to jazz up the opening a bit, but it may have been a bit cumbersome with that tight roof line.

I would have though there were have been some type of structured header to span that opening. I see the double jacks studs between the windows, but spanning 42" without a header is a bit odd. If that is how it was written up, I am sure it is fine. Just looks a bit odd is all.

It was a garage door opening before so I'm sure it doesn't need more structural support. A picture from the street would help

Is it ok that the panes (lights?) of the new windows are bigger than those of the other main-floor windows?

I didn't know what I was talking about when I said "picture window"--what I should have said was, large non-operational window with, say, 10 x 4 lights

I would have used two unit similar in width to the main house with wider spacing between them.

I think it is fine the lites are slightly larger, given that the window is larger. I think, seeing the whole front of the house, you might consider taking out about 20 feet of the current driveway, and plant that area, and building a low brick wall to give a horizontal emphasis at end of driveway as reconfigured, with a planter in front of it to signal start of the sidewalk to the front door. Maybe put a house number on the wall, and some low voltage uplights. Good luck!

How about a nonoperational window same size as (or maybe wider than?) the original main-floor windows, flanked by same height windows that do open? kinda like this:

The windows are fine. The driveway dead ending at the structure and lack of garage is not.

I don’t think you have space for shutters on the new windows and I would remove the other shutters for a more updated and clean look. I too would have stayed with the same size windows with a larger space in between but I don’t think these are bad.
