White powdry stuff on my Yucca Cane
Comments (22)Andre, that definitely looks fungal. Is the tip still alive? Is there good drainage in the pot? Too much moisture makes this worse. If there are any good leaves left, I'd prune off the sick ones- they'll cause more infection. If that trunk is still good and firm, it will sprout more once the problem is corrected. For killing the fungus, neem oil is a good choice. Mist the plant with it outside or in the shower if you can, so the spray doesn't get everywhere. Neem is a bit smelly, but good because it's not so toxic. It also can be used as an insecticide. I see I mentioned neem before. I am sorry for being repetitive, but I do like the stuff....See Morewhite web looking stuff in my Terrarium with vft and pitcher plan
Comments (1)It is probably a little mold. The air provided may not be enough. The ingredients for mold are: high humidity, high temps, little or no air circulation, and low lighting. In contrast, the best way to rid mold is to increase the light and air circulation. Some people use a pc fan and/or add more light and/or open to the air. Outside of using chemicals, some also sprinkle cinnamon on the affected area. Is it possible to manually remove it? VFT's & Sarracenias happen to be cp's that do their best when placed outside. Indoors by the window and/or under a fluorescent light isn't enough (in the long run). They gradually weaken. You can also do a glorified minibog with a hangiong basket or bucket and be able to tote them where you'd like it. Here's an example:...See Morewhite sticky stuff on the leaves of my citrus
Comments (8)Thank you, JOhnmerr and Rhizo 1 for your replies. I have never had this problem before. The grapefruit tree is 8 years old and the lemon tree is 2 years old. Can these "wooly aphids" kill our trees? I will look up how to treat unless you have suggestions. The grapefruit tree is way too big for me to sponge off with water and soap. It's about 15 ft. tall Ants have been very bad herein Texas this year due to the drought last year and the past warm winter then lots of rain in the early part of the year. Geeez...ants have been everywhere. I have been treating them with orange oil and molasses. Should I prune back some of the branch's to allow more airflow or is that not an issue? Thank you again ;)...See MoreWhat's this white stuff on my new trees leafs?
Comments (23)Mealy bug usually proliferates in leaf axils. From there, they can go on to colonize all over the plant, but we should be seeing "mother colonies" in the leaf and branchlet axils. What's more-and I started dealing with mealy bug as a greenhouse pest in the 1970s-mealy bug is almost always soft and squishy. The fact this is in Cali does suggest that it is at least possible this could be that insect group-mealy bugs are not found in the outdoors except in year-round warm areas-but the hardness or crustiness suggest this is something else. I still think it's bird poop. +oM...See Moreschoolhouse_gw
