Choosing 2011 Medicare Supplement + Part D Plans
Comments (10)You really might want to consider the former employer's pharmacy plan - but where I'm a bit confused... if your husband goes for the pharmacy plan for drug coverage and that proves satisfactory - why would there be a need for a switch to the Medicare Part D in 2012? He would, in effect, be dropping his creditable coverage and that creditable status doesn't carry over to a new plan (ie Medicare Part D because they don't care what you might have had), and would be subject to the forever penalty. Creditable is just comparing what you have against whatever else is out there. An actuarial firm determines that your plan offers Rx coverage that is equal to or better than Medicare Part D. Should be easy enough for him to get the boiler plate notice of "creditable" insurance for drugs from his former employer to keep in his files if he goes with what they're offering. In fact, it's a requirement that the notice be sent each year. It's an unimpressive few sheets of paper stating simply: The Society (I'm retired from the Nat'l Geographic Society) is required to issue this annual notice to participants. Then it goes on to explain Medicare Part D, why I don't need it, why I can't be covered for drugs under more than one plan, and what happens if I drop what I have for something else. I still think that the Medicare Part D penalty is imposed whenever it is not signed up for when you initially become Medicare eligible at 65. Guess I would check with the former employer - HR there should be on top of what they offer. And I'd call Medicare too - or your closest SS office. I found the people at our Social Security office really helpful - on the phone and in person....See MoreApril 2018: How's your house living?
Comments (31)How's your home living? -oh it''s living. la vida loca. lol. always looks like it's damn well pleased with itself. me, on the other hand..)) Do you love it? -oh yes. wanted to burn it to the ground numerous times, but we do love it. "I hated you; I loved you, too" What would you change if anything. -myself. also, the fireplace is one crooked abomination-just last minute screw up. not on me-but needs to be fixed. other things..well I don't know. We should gut that only bath we didn't gut-it flooded anyway lol. The only old drain in the house(we gutted and added..this bath was the only thing that partially stayed). Also. Love my kitchen-but if I knew what I know now..mybe I'd rethink the concept. Then I'd have big problems with flooring though. Am not sure. Would you ever build again, or hell no? -umm. on one hand-HELL NO. on the other hand-my brain got really twisted..I somehow got into this "how I'd do it" mode. On a theoretical level. I enter a house or an apartment or whatever-I'm immediately into details and whether job well done or poorly and what I'd do. Can't shake it off. Were the heartaches and time worth it? -Depends when I'm asked. Today-no. It's not a kid. With all my love-and I get very emotionally attached to houses, and I loved this one, I felt for it deeply, it's alive to me, it's so alive-yet it's still a house. But who can predict these things. I hoped it'd be worth it. It maybe was. Maybe it is-and I just don't know. Not today. Upcoming projects? -have to do hardscaping/landscaping of the backyard(we moved year and a half ago..can't catch a breath since then. We're supposed to be long finished with it-haven't even started yet). To redo the fireplace-really bothers me. To improve the mirrors situation in master. I have an elegant idea-just no energy to execute it. To hang art that's not hung yet. To frame art that's waiting to be framed)) Decorating/organizing tips? -oh. a) add storage wherever you can. Have a plan-why I add it? What I want from it? how it will function? b) know and learn your house and thyself, from less obvious things and untangibles like character and quirks, unique to your house and your family, to very obvious things like measurements..always stick a measuring tape in your purse..have a paper with plan and dimensions..have a notebook with your notes and a pen..just always have it on you. You never know when you'll need it. I spent two years of my life like that. Ah. And have main things saved in different formats. Say I have 20 or so paints in my house(including different sheens etc)-but I also have a very detailed comprehensive list, on paper, on computer, eveywhere. Save references. c) never, ever hurry. Never go for one store only even if you love it crazily, even if you can afford it. Good rooms can't emerge in a day. Don't buy placeholders if you can-most things can wait. Do find a small stuff that makes your every day a bit happier-a plant, a coffee cup, a whatever. don't shy away from second hand if you can(some people can't and I totally respect it)-they made things better:) Even 20 years ago. Thank you for opening a great thread-and I enjoyed reading everybody's replies, and being Eeyore myself:)...See MoreMy Medicare Part D Plan Went Belly-Up
Comments (23)No, my plan is most definitely NOT a Medicare Advantage plan! Hubs and I are both covered by the PERSCare (PPO) Supplement to Medicare Plan and the PERSCare Medicare PDP (Prescription Drug Plan). (The Basic plan is for folks who are still active employees.) We don't get a choice of Prescription Drug Plans -- we have to take what the State offers with whatever Medicare Supplement Plan we choose. (For example, the State offers Kaiser, and Kaiser manages their own prescriptions. The California Correctional Peace Officers Association plans, active employees as well as retirees, are administered by Blue Shield, and the CCPOA pharmacy benefits are also administered by Blue Shield. The California Association of Highway Patrolmen plans, both Basic and Medicare Supplements, are administered by Anthem Blue Cross, but their prescriptions are managed by Express Scripts.) You can see all of this information on this page. Our plan (PERSCare) has no geographical restrictions. It covers us no matter where we are in the world. OptumRx manages the prescription drug coverage. We pay no additional premium for the drug coverage - it's included in the premium for the Supplement policy. You can read the entire Evidence of Coverage booklet if you're interested. I see in looking at it that it is, indeed, our "Plan D" that handles the Gap coverage (see this info starting on page 53 of the linked EoC; the Gap Stage on page 62; and the Catastrophic Coverage Stage on page 64). You can also see the Comprehensive Formulary if you're interested....See MoreI know you're not doctors but I'd still like your opinion
Comments (28)It looks better this morning.......the red is fading. So all is good. All is well. Now you don’t need to do anything else. The pharmacist would likely recommend otc hydrocortisone, topical Benadryl, and other anti itch topicals. When I got stung by a bee when dead heading a marigold bloom, I remembered a remedy told by my mom about turmeric, so I immediately ran back inside and made a paste of turmeric powder, then applied & gently massaged on to the affected area between my thumb and forefinger. 30 minutes later, the swelling and pain were nearly gone. An hour later it was like nothing happened there. From there on I use this remedy for insect bites. I always have a turmeric powder bottle on my spice shelf to use occasionally in some dishes. Turmeric powder is also used to reduce arthritis pain and inflammation when taken internally. Several years ago, The People’s Pharmacy talk show discussed an arthritis remedy using this powder. I referred to this talk show and recommended it to a dear friend’s mom who had arthritis pain in her arm/shoulder joint. She took a teaspoon every night and it started working for her in a few weeks. She has taken it every night ever since. When I had a surgery on my jaw bone, I took turmeric powder, along with using ice pack. Worked well to control inflammation without taking ibuprofen which often does not go well with my stomach. Can you see how much I like turmeric powder. That said, people must consult with their doctor or pharmacist if they want to take turmeric while on certain prescription drugs or under a treatment regimen....See Morelucillle
