This has been posted many, many times, but here it is again... One of the easiest ways to provide your photo to be embedded into a post is to upload it onto an image hosting site such as Photobucket, Flickr, etc. That should be pretty straight forward, and the individual sites will give instructions on how to get your photos uploaded to their site when you sign up. Once your picture has been uploaded, find its image location address (URL) by right clicking on the image and copying the image location. Some sites may even provide the appropriate HTML code in a text box below the photo for your convenience. It will be the one that begins with a href=... Let's say, as an example, that the address of the picture you want to post is http://somepicturesite.com/yourpicture.jpg To embed the picture into a post, use the command: img src="http://somepicturesite.com/yourpicture.jpg"> _____________________________________ If your picture is too large to fit nicely into the text page, you can add a width attribute. The command with the width attribute would look something like: img src="http://somepicturesite.com/yourpicture.jpg" width=600> _____________________________________ Another option is to use a text link which might be beneficial to people on slow connections. To do this, use the command: a href="http://somepicturesite.com/yourpicture.jpg">your text goes here/a> _____________________________________ Note that I had to use special characters to get the commands above to show up here without turning into pictures, but you can use them as shown (with the correct image web address, of course).

If you know how to prune bareroot material, and prune some and don't prune some, as a control, you'll never again suggest anything by Whitcomb Really? Since all of the many trials I've read Whitcomb's descriptions of used controls, I wonder how your statement fits. Or maybe your point is that you find out with the not pruning that the not pruning backfires, and you wish you had pruned - instead of using part of the batch as a control. Sometimes with rants it can be hard to tell what is being said. I do know that I am tired of topped deciduous stock being presented here or shipped to me. A rare hawthorn I had here for years never got over the topping and got pulled out; a crab I've had here long enough for it to be fully established and growing vigorously is growing even more all over the place than many kinds of crabs do anyway because it was topped. What I am talking about is arbitrary top pruning, as Whitcomb calls it, and not selective pruning. As for Dirr's publications, if you don't know what is wrong with some of the things he says, then you don't really know the subjects he is saying these things about. Think about it. The digging season in the lower 48 is too late for the growers in Alaska to plant in the ground unless there is an exceptional year. They receive roots that have been kept in cold storage in the spring for planting then. If they can do it you can too. Most of the roots you see in packages have also been kept in cold storage unless they have been shipped from the Southern Hemisphere. The only thing is that the plant growth can be retarded by Spring planting but that will happen if in the ground or in a pot. The reason is that the small roots needed to absorb nutrients are not triggered to grow until the ground is cooler. Being planted close to the surface there may also be some thing about the daylight be coming shorter that can also cue the plants. Planting in pots and waiting until fall is up to you but I would recommend placing those pots in the ground rather than exposing them to the heat of the air surrounding the pots. If you do get them established you may have a problem with some of the nematodes eating from their roots as they are more prevalent in certain types of soil. Your soil may also be too alkali for good growth but in that case I do suggest a raised bed. There are some peonies whose ancestors come from alkali areas of the world. Next year the American Peony Society is planned to have their annual meeting in Oregon again. There will be people there that have much more knowledge of the geographic areas that peonies are from than I am.
