Do you rinse dishes before loading dishwasher ??
Comments (76)Would you draw a bathtub full of water, and let all the family member's use the same water? Its the same thing putting dishes in the dishwasher without rinsing them off. Your washing all your dishes in dirty water.... But according to the posts I've read their are a number of factors that contribute to the discussion. It wastes water by rinsing dishes... Well is the water turned on full blast or just at a trickle? The food on the dishes actually helps the detergent work better... Really? Thats like jumping into a mud pit, going inside and taking a shower while trying to lather up with the mud still on you? Does the soap work better? One post read that the dishes sit in the dishwasher for awhile before the dishwasher is ran. So a response was to use the prerinse. Isn't this the same thing as rinsing before they go into the dishwasher? By not prerinsing, food can and will clog into the sprayer jets, eventually. Most people don't know what their hot water heater is set at, and it usually takes a minimum of 125 to start to break down food, and 160 degrees to dissolve food. Not to mention that your dishwasher is usually filled with cold water because the of the draw from the water pipes doesn't heat up in time to get the hot water to the dishwasher. So, in turn if your dishwasher has a heating element, it heats up the water, which is counter productive of the whole reasoning not to rinse your dishes. How many people use the dryer selection to dry their dishes? Or do you just open up the dishwasher and let the dishes air dry? If you use the dryer selection on the dishwasher, You are using as much, if not more, energy then my prerinsing the dishes..... But from what I read, if you aren't using the correct detergent then you've lost the game. Well, if the dishwasher is doing its job, then it shouldn't matter on what kind of detergent you use? Moral of the story, rinse your dishes, check the temp of your hot water heater, prime the hot water before running your dishwasher, let your dishes air dry and you will actually save more energy....See MoreMiele dishwasher leaking rinse aid
Comments (30)My mistake. I had a Touchtronic, not a Novotronic. Not sure where my mind went on that. I had one of the 800 series. I miss it. Well, the saga continues. The little connector came in and the repairman came last week to put it on my dishwasher. I wasn't home when he fixed it (I was out of town), so I don't know if he actually tested it, but I discovered that the detergent door STILL isn't opening. SO, I put in another call to Miele. They were very nice to make sure someone came out the next day. This time they sent a senior tech to diagnose (honestly, I think they thought I was nuts). He came today, spent quite a lot of time trying to figure out what was wrong. Finally discovered that when the rinse aid leaked into the wire, in addition to eating the wire, it shorted out one part of the computer. But of course that part wasn't on the truck. Soooo, here's hoping that when the computer gets replaced, it will all work again....See MoreAnother dishwasher question - rinse aid with Bosch?
Comments (16)I do use rinse aid in my Bosch. Dunno what would happen if I didn't. The third rack is awesome. So, so awesome. I got it by accident because my GC found an 800 series for the same price as the 300 series machine I had specified. I use mine for silverware. The way the third rack works, I can sort the silverware for washing, which makes unloading it a breeze (scoop up all the spoons in one hand and drop them in their spot). I took the basket out and I can fit so, so, so much more in the bottom rack now. A whole party's worth of plates! Or mixing bowls, plus the dinner dishes! I do so much less handwashing now. I use the normal cycle all the time so I don't care about all the other options, except that I do use the delayed start pretty much every day. I load the dishwasher after dinner and set it to run a couple of hours later. That way I can add the random post-dinner snack items, without risk of forgetting to start the machine before I go to bed....See MoreHow long should a dishwasher's tank of rinse aid last?
Comments (7)I reprogrammed the rinse aid dispenser setting after posting this, setting it to 4 instead of the default 3 (not 2 as I had mistakenly written in the original post). The refill light came on in 2 weeks. I suspect the dishwasher may have somehow lost its saved programming and possibly wasn't dispensing any rinse aid at all until I reprogrammed it. I'll track how long this batch lasts and try to remember to report back here. The problem with all the "it depends" posts is that they are no help at all to someone trying to troubleshoot a problem. Hopefully I can help users with a similar issue find an actual baseline to compare against....See MorePolina Zhitomirsky
