Soap Scum/Film On Glass Shower Doors
Comments (130)Finally! Last night I smeared a combination of hot vinegar (microwaved 2 minutes and an equal amount of blue Dawn. I had used it last year (guest bath only used once a year). I followed the directions, just let it sit and the bottom of the tub looked great. It did not budge the insane soap scum on the side of the tub. The tub was only used during Christmas vacation by our adult daughter who never cleaned. I was in panic mode tonight and saw someone above mention Awesome Cleaner from the Dollar Tree. I put a little water in the tub to wet the vinegar/dawn mixture from last night, swished my scrubber pad in it to wet it. Poured Awesome powder on it and thanked God because it worked! I could not believe it worked and was in panic mode because my daughter is bringing her boyfriend in town with her! Now if I could just get the rest of the house presentable!...See MoreHalloween Candy Alternatives?
Comments (23)I've enjoyed your stories and suggestions. Rhizo, I agree with you -- it's like a plague of locusts hitting us -- with the SUV's lined up out front coming from who knows where! Sometimes the "kids" look old enough to vote! My regret is that there isn't a good prediction of necessary quantity. Some years we have a hundred or more and run out; other years we get so few that we're left with a bunch of candy that I don't want! Here's a story though that makes opening that door to the little ones worthwhile: One Halloweed the doorbell rang; I opened the door to a little one (about 2 years or so) who said nothing -- just stood and stared at me. His dad was standing back in the shadows, otherwise the little boy was all alone. I said, "Is it trick or treat? Is that why you're standing on my porch looking like that?" The little boy said nothing, but the father stepped forward with a smile and said "sometimes he gets it and sometimes he doesn't." I gave the little boy some candy and the father started asking about my decorations and how I made them. As we were talking, I could tell the little boy was anxious to get on to more trick or treating. Finally he stepped forward and waved his hand in a sort of solute and said, "Well, Merry Christmas!" and turned and marched on. I said "and Merry Christmas to you too!" His dad rolled his eyes as if to say "like I said, sometimes he gets it and sometimes he doesn't." When I closed the door, my husband said "did I hear you wish someone a Merry Christmas", as if I had completely lost my senses! We laugh about that sweet little boy and re-tell the story often....See MoreDo you have a funny or awkward Christmas present story?
Comments (28)I have one that is more strange than funny, but appropriate for a decorating forum. Many years ago, just before Christmas, my BIL and his wife remodeled their kitchen, using apples as a theme--dark red and forest green colors. My MIL called and told me that for Christmas she and FIL were buying BIL/SIL new dishes, to match their new kitchen. She described the dishes as having apples painted on them, with a dark green edge band. Then she said, "And we'd like to get you new dishes, too." I was thrilled, because I'd been thinking of buying a new set of dishes to replace our old odds-and-ends, but hadn't wanted to spend the money. I told my MIL this, and thanked her, and mentioned that either a cream color, or a light sage green would look good in my kitchen. MIL: "No, we're getting you the same dishes, with apples on them, because that's what FIL likes." Me: "But, we don't have anything with apples on it in our kitchen, and really, nothing red or forest green." (The kitchen had no theme--it was neutral with cream and tan, and some light blue-green vintage pottery.) MIL: "Well, that's what we're getting you, and I'm sure they'll be just fine." Me: "Um, OK, thank you. That's really nice of you." On Christmas I opened the package, thanked the in-laws again, then used the hated apple dishes for about a year and a half. One day when the in-laws showed up for family dinner, I put out my brand new cream and sage dishes, that I'd finally bought for myself, without saying a word. Neither of them ever mentioned my new dishes. I love my FIL and my late MIL, and that was so out of character for them, it still puzzles me. BTW, I packed away the apple dishes, until just recently, when my DD needed dishes for her new place. She was happy to see the familiar pattern, especially since the dishes came from her grandparents. :)...See Morepurchased anything from dollar stores
Comments (35)I received this email today and figured it was another urban legend, so I checked it out on Snopes. Unfortunately, it's the truth. It's enough to keep me out of Dollar Stores forever. I've got enough junk as it is. Investigating Dollar Stores A news investigation on dollar stores (including Dollar Tree and others): They discovered the Crest, Colgate and other brand name toothpastes weren't the same as from drug, and grocery stores etc. The toothpastes were manufactured in many other countries and are not approved by the American Dental Association (ADA). There was even some from South Africa and the fluoride is ten times stronger than what we're allowed in the U.S. (prescription strength). They're allowed stronger because they don't have fluoridated water (like we do). So if we (or our kids) use it often and occasionally swallow it, we could be poisoning ourselves. The dollar stores declined to comment and a full investigation has begun. So stick to paying full-price at your grocery store, drug store, and send this e-mail to anyone who MIGHT shop at dollar stores. This is a true story. It has been confirmed on Snopes. http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/household/toothpaste.asp This is also true of food products, cake mixes, cereal, etc. Here is a link that might be useful: Dollar Store junk on Snopes...See MoreUser
