As you can see the living room is somewhere around 19ftx16ft. I am getting ready to start the framing process next week and have one last opportunity to change my living room window placement that you can see in the image below on the right hand side in the middle. So feel free to move that if you can think of better placement. I love the kitchen window placement but I'm not sold on the Living Room window placement. I'm open to ideas about furniture/couch layout for the living room as well, as I will buying some new furniture for the house. We will have a TV in the basement and our "hope" is to have no TV on the first floor (but we have never lived without one on the first floor so there is a good chance we may put a TV back in the living room at some point and it would be nice to have an option to rearrange for both situations). Also there is currently no centerpiece or fireplace or anything that things will need to be arranged around. I thought this open layout looked great but now I'm panicking a bit, any advice?

My living room layout is very similar! I had my couch horizontal in front of your window creating a entryway, maybe put a console table behind the couch.

The door is to the backyard yes. I am definitely debating between the last two. The sofa facing the tv is comfortable for viewing but the fireplace looks best with the two chairs framing and everything fits. May move the sofa table behind the couch when we get an actual tv stand. You guys have been a great help. Side note how close can things go to the fireplace. Example can there be drapes on those windows or would that be too close?

Open concept sounds like a great idea. “Sounds” is the operative word. Sounds bounce all around in a large, single living space. Think carefully about how you and your family will actually live in one room. Can you run the dishwasher after dinner and still hear the tv? If you have kids, do you really want your living room on display to anyone who appears at the front door with all the toys all over? Can you run the food processor , the microwave, the exhaust fan while someone in the living space is trying to talk on the phone? Will it bother you to see all the dirty dishes piled on the counter while you relax at the dinner table? Where do you hang pictures if you have few walls?
