Never do I ever walk barefooted. I always have either shoes or slippers on.

I don't either!

Run to get out of the rain. I tripped over the dog once in a mad dash, and broke my face. To this day I can't whistle. I will not dissolve if I get a little damp.

Every single "never do it" I has been broken multiple times over the years.

I think the "don't buy gas when truck is there" notion is a myth.

Alternative 1 - You go to fill up and the underground tank is nearly empty. You have no way to know that. The "dregs", if they do exist, are concentrated in what remains in the tank and so the gas you pump into your car is full of dregs.

Alternative 2 - You go to fill up and the truck has just finished filling the underground tank. The "dregs", if they do exist, are stirred up but now diluted into 10 times as much gas, so what you pump into your car has a much lower concentration of "dregs" than if you'd done so before the truck arrived.

You can choose between the 2 alternatives, which do you like better?

PS - Gas stations, gas pumps, and vehicles have very good fuel filters. Those in the car get changed regularly if you maintain it to recommended standards. The incidence of fuel lines and cars getting fouled by getting "bad gas" is pretty low.

Elmer, I'll stick to Alternative 3-avoiding the truck, makes me feel better! My DH is quite smart about a lot of "stuff".

My DH owned a gas station, and he told me never to buy gas when the tanker was there. He said that water sinks to the bottom of the tank; when the tanker is filling up the tank, it stirs up the water (and sediment), causing it to get pumped into your gas tank. Better safe than sorry....

"My husband said this or that" is a conversation ender for me. Husbands aren't always right, although my wife's often is.

Lots of people look at "likes." I do - I find them interesting and revealing. I have noticed the same thing about Elmer's comments. Consistent "likes" for anyone who disagrees with him. Too often to be a coincidence.

I never go a day without reading.

Gas stations have filters that trap dirt & sludge as do automobiles. While this may have been an issue at one time it no longer is. Btw, my dh works in the oil industry.

Chi, no raw tomatoes? Why? I LIVE for those few months a year when I can harvest my own.

I don't know, Cindy! It would make my life much easier as they are in everything. Something about the sweet taste and slimy texture I just can't do. Cooked tomatoes are fine though, especially pureed. I love marinara sauces, salsa (not pico), tomato soup, things like that.

You reminded me of another one - I never forget to wash my hands when I come back home from being out and about. First stop is always the sink.

I thought I was weird with the hand washing when I come home from any outing. I am convinced that there are cold and flu germs on my hands.

Lucy, I won't buy fruit or veggies that are pre-cut. The few times I buy lettuce mixes I have to pick through the package to toss anything that doesn't meet my standards.

I think it makes sense, Elizabeth. We touch cart handles, gas nozzles, money, public bathrooms, handrails, all sorts of things. Washing it all off when you get home seems like it would avoid bringing in some of that ick.

I've heard steering wheels are usually pretty germy for that same reason. I used to use hand sanitizer before touching it but I've relaxed a bit and I just try to wash my hands frequently.

I've honestly never heard about the gas thing. Interesting.

We never eat at a newly opened restaurant the first weeks. Learned the hard way with first week meals taking forever to arrive at our table.

Re the gas station.....so what if you pull in to buy gas two minutes after the tanker has gone.....you’d never know it was just filled up.

I never buy food from bins at the grocery store, like bagels. I saw a report once that clerks have found all kinds of things in them......won’t gross you out by naming them. Salad bars in grocery stores or restaurants are pretty icky to me too.....as are buffets...you dont know who has walked by and touched what. You cant see a restaurant kitchen but they at least have health/cleanliness laws they are supposed to follow.

I also wash my hands when I get home from running errands.

Joanie, what I don't see I don't stress over.

As for hand washing, after playing cards at the senior center, I make sure I wash my hands before I leave there. Usually my next stop is the grocery store. And I wash my hands when I get home.

My dear Mom would scrub her bananas with soap and pour boiling water over the top of a can before opening.

Never take a flu shot. Never use hand sanitizer. Never eat cereal or drink milk or coffee. I am the opposite of Chi....I only eat fresh tomatoes. I don't like to cook with canned tomatoes...although I will use sauce or paste. Little pieces of cooked tomato in food, grosses me out. I never kill snakes or spiders...even poisonous ones...in fact, I am always happy when I see a poisonous snake...we have cottonmouths and coral snakes here. I've never seen a copperhead or a rattlesnake here. I never tell my daughter she should have kids. I never read fiction. (I've tried....can't get into it.) Never watched a soap opera or a weekly series. Never had a massage, manicure or pedicure by a professional. The idea of a stranger touching me....no appeal. Probably other things, but I've had a long day and can't think right now.

This is a difficult question for me. There are many things I have no desire doing--bungee jumping or sky diving, for example. But I can also think of exceptions to the never. Someone wanting to offer me $500,000, or pointing a gun at my head, might be sufficient. Only one week left to live, why not.

Never do I not wash my hands the minute I'm in the house. Never do I touch my face unless I'm in my house. (I love tomatoes so much, I actually get depressed when they're over because I don't ever eat ones from the grocery store. This has been a bountiful year)

I also wash cans before opening. I saw a store clerk using boxes of canned veggies, with open tops, as a step stool once. I give my steering wheel an occasional wipe down with a Lysol wipe.

Never would I ever get a tattoo.

I had a '79 Honda Prelude and was time pressured so filled up while the gas truck was filling the tank. That car was one of the last ones with dual carbs. The fuel fouled the system and it never ran right after that...despite having it to the dealership 5 times and despite the fact that my own brother was the service manager.

Since then, if I see the truck, I don't fill up. But in our area, they've replaced most of the tanks over the years with ones that are better sealed and I'm sure they've improved the filtering, but why risk it.

Eat fish or any type of seafood.

As for the gas thing. I work at an oil refinery. One of the perks is having an employee gas pump. That pump pulls directly from the tank that the tanker trucks pull out of to load their trucks. (Which means no ethanol! Yay!) When we make the gas,and pump it into that tank for loading,it is a constant battle between the powers that be whether or not to turn off the employee gas pump while the tank is being filled. The argument is about the sediment and water in the tank,and no one ever wins. They turn it on,they turn it off, they turn it back on,yada yada yada. This back and forth continues until the tank is full enough that any sediment has settled back to the bottom and the water has been removed and it doesn't matter. So i say do what makes you comfortable.

ElizabethA I believe you are doing the right thing. When I taught, our school nurse was not sick in all the years I knew her. Her success was due,she felt, to always washing her hands and never touching her face. Plus I believe when working with kids, one builds up an immunity. Hand washing is highly under rated.

Never do I ever start my day without coffee. Well, every 3 years I must have a colonoscopy and those mornings my coffee is delayed. But that's the ONLY exception.

First stop coming home is the sink. Studies show it is the *friction* under running water that removes germs, not soap or water temperature. (Hmm...wouldn't that contradict the use of soap?)

On the other *hand*, my grandmother said everyone will eat a peck of dirt before they die. (Food was not abundant in her early life.)

I never walk between parked cars that have a driver in the front seat or not. While at a service station, my father was caught between two cars when the driver of one put it in gear. He suffered two broken legs and a leg full of glass from the shattered headlight. I share that "lesson" with my kids and grandkids.

Never do I ever park and leave my car without removing any trash inside it. And at least one window cracked open. Winter or summer. Even in my garage. DH gives me a lot of grief over that but I don't care.

Honestly, there might be more, but the only never I can think of is never will I eat escargot! Or a raw oyster.
