Remodeling Design Dilemma Kitchens

HELP-Black Leathered or White Quartz Countertop!

We have gone back and forth with deciding if we want a granite black leathered countertop (or Soapstone) or a white quartz with veins kitchen countertop. Just when we think we made our decision we see the opposite somewhere and fall in love with that! Our kitchen will be, white shaker cabinets, blue Viking Tuscany Range, backsplash is Stone Impressions Caprice Single-Color Sapphire on Carrara, a rich walnut beam and a support post connected to countertop, white T&G ceiling. We live near the beach. We thought we'd do a white Calcutta looking quartz but just saw a home with the black leathered countertop and love that too. The kitchen is open to the family room/living space and dining area. I don't want it all to look too white but I also don't want the black to make it look too dark with the walnut beam and post. Also-do people like 1.5" or 2. ¼" edge on their countertops? I like both and don't know which makes more sense. My brain is swimming with all the choices and decisions! Can anyone help me? Thank you!

Easy decision for me. The white quartz with straight edge. Being close to the beach, black would seem dark and out of place. You'll have enough "drama" with the beams, ceiling and backsplash. Sounds wonderful!

Either hold off on the back splash, or rein it in a bit: ) I'd be careful of any strong veining in any marble with the Sapphire Caprice and the range. Both are in starring roles. ..... I wouldn't be afraid of a very !! deep blue toned soapstone with minimal veining. Or even a simple and plain white quartz. But the two stars already selected shall dictate, or you will end with "busy" . I see no strongly veined counter with your back splash.

I'm so sorry you have to deal with this! That is a terrible seam, and I would not be happy with it. I'm sure others will weigh in with helpful information, but my initials thoughts are: 1. Stop trying to fix it yourself, lest the contractor comes back and claims, "Well, I *could* have fixed it until you put that (fill in blank) on it..." 2. Go back to your contract. Is there any verbiage there that can help you out? 3. Document everything--every detail, every date, every attempted call, everything. I think Caesarstone charcoal looks a lot like Silestone's Ebony Pearl. Black countertops are difficult. I know that I really want black also but I know it will show dust & dirt...I'm torn b/w the look of black and the look of black w/dust & fingerprints! :-) Have you looked at Stellar Night? We were considering this when we were planning on quartz. It has some speckles in it so it may hide the dust, but I don't know about fingerprints--it might though since it's not black-black like Absolute Black granite or Black Anubis Silestone. I don't know what Stellar Night would like in the "leather" finish, but it might work out fine...

I have both, Cambria Brittanicca on my perimeter cabs,and Cambria Ella on my island - both are white quartz. The smudges drive me nuts and they don't come off with a damp paper towel wipe. You really need to rub them out, or use one of their recommended cleaning products (I use Lysol disinfectant wipes) to get it all off. No idea how black compares.

Honestly, I would definitely ditch that Caprice back splash. It's over kill on blue. I'd take a white quartz that has very SUBTLE and scattered veining, and use it everywhere. Go right up the back splash with it. Easiest clean up..... the range will be the star. Match the hood to it and be done : ) and you will have a light and fresh and still beachy result

Or......... plain white quartz on the counters all.....and a splash in marble. Let the range "star" in both cases.

I agree with both Jan and Darzy. Black seems out of place for a home near the beach and that backsplash might be too much.

Thank you very much for all your feedback! I'm going to stick with the white countertop. The veining is very subtle and not loud and in your face. I agree, let the range and the tile be the star. I can't rethink the tile due to having already purchased, it has a no return. I can't thank you all enough for your valuable input. :-)
