That is interesting Annie. The upper and lower parts of the fountain seem to have two different styles of sculpture. Is it just me that thinks they disconnect style-wise, like a country cottage with a formal hedge and topiary garden?

The chihuly sculpture is the blue glass cubes in the lower fountain. The upper fountain is a permanent fixture. A lot of his sculptures are placed in water.

Chihuly has linked the origins of glass to a water environment through the myth of shipwrecked Mediterranean sailors accidentally creating glass from a beach bonfire some four thousand years ago.62 He also perceives water as a major source of his own creativity, noting, “One of the great attractions of being in the Northwest is the rain. I find the rain very creative. Water is the one thing that I can assure you is a major influence on my work and my life and everything I do...If I don’t feel good or I don’t feel creative, if I can get near the water something will start to happen.”63

While Chihuly's work is absolutely fabulous, I think in this instance the two take away from each other rather than compliment; I would appreciate them separately more. But hey, I'm not a master of art. lol
