I might paint ONLY the spindles but beyond that, I don't think I'd paint the trim. Are you asking about wall color too? That would depend on the rest of your house, but with little natural light, I would not use anything dark

Since it is just a pass-through area, I’d be inclined to paint it a light warm color similar to what you have there now. I’d also look into changing the lighting fixtures to ones that light the area better. The floor looks nice, is laminate going to hold up in an entry area where there might be wet shoes, etc.?

Lori- you picked up on the main source of my concern about the color - the part that comes down from the ceiling- I feel like it needs to be dark to blend in- it is bugging me! Advice? When color drops like that down, from the horizontal ceiling to the vertical wall, it creates a cap or lid effect. 10 inches is a lot, it's a big lip. Too much to paint it haint blue IMO. Alternatively, too much to paint it a "trim" color and then the ceiling only haint blue. Because it will create too many lines of color, 3 colors wall/trim/ceiling is too much visual clutter. My mantra is edit and simplify as a rule which is why I'd choose a light, natural stain color that makes sense with the other elements in the space. And I'd make sure the product whatever you choose to use is non-yellowing.

Are we talking about the "entry" right at the front door? Or the space up on the step up area toward the stairs. Basically, though, it's the base of the table that will somewhat define the style. The more rustic, it becomes more "Mountain lodge" and the more refined it can go modern, contemporary or even more "transitional". They are also pretty expensive so before you invest money there, figure out how much you want to or can spend now, and then start selecting things you like and create an "Ideabook" here on Houzz. That will help you "define" which style direction you like. You can "like" a number of styles, but ultimately one will become more apparent than others.
