Rogue General Contractor and the Aftermath

n2desine

This year, we decided to put an addition on our house. After interviewing tons of general contractors, looking at reviews, checking on licensing etc., we signed a contract with contractor that came within our budget. Our job made very slow progress and it became obvious that the contractor was super incompetent. Fast forward, we receive a call from the country with the news that his license was suspended and he was under investigation by the state and he could do no more work. At that point, our house was still exposed to the elements and we have been scrambling to interview additional GCs. Here is the BIG dilemma, while the project is about 45% done, and the structural engineer has verified the structure, the pricing we are receiving to complete the project is just as much if not more as quotes we received from ground up. Any suggestions? This is beyond nightmarish....
