White fuzzy spots on my bird of paradise?
Comments (8)Mealy or scale, it doesn't matter (my vote is for some sort of scale, Bois-duval maybe?), since mealy is a kind of scale and you treat them the same way. First line of defense is to wipe off all the visible pests. Next, spray with an insecticidal soap or horticultural oil. Keep at this for a while and that should take care of it. Be persistant, this kind of scale is insidious!...See MoreWhite Bird of Paradise - Yellow Stalks
Comments (4)The leaves can burn with too much sun, but the stalks should not be yellow. It sounds like the roots should be checked. As bahia suggested, you might call your landscaper  you may have received an unhealthy plant from the beginning. When you contact your landscaper, you might ask the botanic name of your bird of paradise & ask whether it is a Strelitzia alba or nicolai. I am zone 10, but the S. nicolai is starting to put out new leaves about now. There should not be any yellowing, but new growth. I would not fertilize too much at this point  if it is sick a fertilizer may hurt the plant. I use a commercial extended release fertilizer with mine & fertilize during active growth. If you are zone 9, you might need to create a microclimate for it....See MoreQuestion on Giant Bird Of Paradise
Comments (7)ours looked very much the same, ladybug. looks like you have a good supply of pups at the bases, tho, and it won't be any time at all before those are huge, too. we did prune off the dead and damaged leaves that we could reach and they're still all alive and looking lots better. There are so many plants now, that perhaps we should cut out some trunks (the older ones) anyway....See MoreWhite Bird of Paradise chewed by unknown culprit
