Comments (2)Oh don't you worry about the pot size! A large plant like this does need a large pot. Nurseries keep their plants in minimal sizes to save space. Whether you put it in a large pot, a huge planter or in the ground makes no difference. I am sure your plant will be much happier in there with some space. It has to be able to develop a good root system. And you don't want it to blow over in the wind either. I think the 'plants want to/need to be pot-bound' tale was just an invention of chronic overwaterers. Just remember, the larger the pot, the longer it takes to dry out. You will have to watch the plant and the soil until you get the feel for it, you don't want to keep it permanently soggy. But as long as it has a drainage hole this will hardly happen. The spot you have it in sounds good to me, just be careful of the sun in the beginning if this plant has been standing in a shady place or indoors until now. But - what are you going to do with it in winter?? Maddy...See MoreBirds of Paradise white spots on leaves
Comments (1)It sounds like mealy bugs and you can get rid of them by spraying with 1:1 alcohol and water in a spray bottle - spray it on the bugs and the 'coating' will melt and the bugs will die. Do it every 7 days for a month and they will be gone. Keep check on the leaves for further development of bugs, because there will still be eggs in the soil for awhile, until you break the cycle....See MoreBrown spots and drooping leaves on my Bird of Paradise, help!
Comments (3)Hi, I also have the exact same problem. Would love to know if either of you figured this out! I did find some spider mites on my plant and have been treating it for them, but I'm not sure if that's just another problem or the reason why. I also did worry that mine was getting burned in the sun, but from everything I read, they are supposed to be very tolerant of direct sunlight. Thank you!...See MoreHelp with white spots on bird of paradise
Comments (0)Hello! I’m concerned my bird of paradise has a disease or infestation. Recently These white spots have appeared, but they look a little different from the pictures I’ve seen of mealy bugs. The stalk is also turning brown in spots. Any idea what they are or how to fix?...See Moreronalawn82
