Blue Star Owners: Please respond to this oven door poll
Comments (29)We've had our 30" RNB for two years. The oven gets used a lot, as often as 4 times a week when my wife is baking all of our bread. During those two years we had periodic troubles with the door sticking, so I greased the hinges frequently. Finally the door stuck so hard that getting it open damaged the inner panel. Unfortunately, it was essential that it be opened, because it had our Thanksgiving food in it. That sounds grim, but Michael at Bluestar service responded promptly to my email, ordered a new door (reportedly with design fixes), kept me informed as to when to expect it to arrive, and, most importantly, came through exactly as promised. The new door was very easy to install and it works great. I can't say I was thrilled about the hinge problem, but I was very satisfied with the way that Bluestar remedied it. Apart from the hinge issue, the range remains a joy to use....See MoreNeed feedback asap- Please?
Comments (27)CEFreeman: Thanks for your concern- I really appreciate your words. Yes, DH spent FOUR hours at Lowes yesterday and they typed out everything we wanted, on the contract. They said we have final say on inspection after the job is done and if we don't like anything, we don't sign off until they get the guy to correct it or they get it corrected ( like getting another slab). They were pretty good with us yesterday. I know all of you gave us the best advice - we took it all to heart. But a number of factors made us finally go with this guy - including the fact that Lowes is really invested in making sure we get a good installation done. ( Yes, we were also mentally and physically fatigued which I know is not an excuse but... ). He has been installing Zodiaq, Dupont and Corian counters for a long time and also has installed Silestone for private contractors - We did call up two of them and they said he was 'good." We hope that is the case. Silestone had him on their list - they said he was 'certified". It's not so much that he doesn't know anything about it but more that he is hard to get hold of and tries to push his "views" on the customer. Lowes says he has 'done Silestone" for other Lowes stores in our state but is new to their store. I have been online searching Silestone for their certified installers and found nothing except the local phone number to call - which we did. Do keep your fingers crossed - we are keeping our toes crossed as well. KD is *on* it, though - so we feel a measure of comfort and assurance. Thank you so much again....See MoreCan someone tell me about Quartz countertops? Pro & Cons please
Comments (17)I've had Cambria quartz for three years now, and I love it. It's impervious! Red wine, beets, curry, whatever -- nothing stains this stuff. No chips or scratches or other damage. I've dropped a jar of jam on it; nothing heavier that I can recall, though. I rest pot lids on it all the time with no problem, but I do always use a trivet for hot pots or pans -- long-standing habit, with my old formica! -- so I can't speak to the potential for damage from those. My only (minor) complaint is that I unwittingly chose a pattern that is a *great* camouflage for crumbs, so I can't always see when it needs wiping down unless I turn bright lights on. And wiping it down with water (sometimes soapy, mostly not) is all I've ever done in terms of cleaning. All in all it's ultra low maintenance, and it looks good: definitely a winner in my book....See MorePLEASE help me choose countertop color asap!
Comments (43)What a gorgeous kitchen! I'm jealous of all that beautiful wood. The character of the wooden beams and wooden base cabinets bring such warmth and personality, it almost feels like the outdoors are coming in. I had looked under your name in the finished kitchens blog to see if you were there, really appreciate you sharing the photo. Your backsplash is so pretty, just the right amount of bling and lightness. Where did you find it? I'd like to do he same thing, with subway glass tile everywhere except right behind the stove, do arabesque there. If I had a kitchen like this, I'd want to cook a lot too. =) Love hearing that cleanup is easy with a stain resistant grout, that's a great tip, I'll be sure to ask for that too, Was it an epoxy grout?...See Morethatsmuchbetter
