Help! Can A Just Tiled Kerdi Shower Niche Only Be Redone?
Comments (7)"You really learn from your mistakes. Never did a remodel before & had no help. You can look at a million pictures & think in your head how yours will look & then be so off." You had a contractor and a tile installer ... there is your "help" right there. They are the experienced professionals and should be advising you as to what will work and what won't. The tile installer, if he knew anything about tile at all, should have advised you about how the edges of the tile would look without trim. That he went ahead and laid it that way and left it that way is ridiculous. It looks bad and reflects badly on him. Vote for StoneTech's solution, and while I like Tre's, too, I'd be concerned about losing available space inside the niche if the tile wasn't demo'd first. If setting a prefab box on top of the existing tile, I'd make sure there was room for the size of the shampoo bottles you intend to store there....See MoreLiving room help needed....piano corner doesn't sing
Comments (41)Hi all, no photos yet as I've come down with a bad cold; taking a decorating timeout. Right now I'm sitting in the LR with a fuzzy bathrobe and some hot tea. But sometimes a couple of days to let things settle is a good thing. GK, I'm looking forward to seeing your piano. Mine used to be turned so that the keys were visible in the room. It has its advantages, for sure. Awhile back I posted here with another question about the Living room, and Les suggested I look at turning it the way it is now. I hadn't thought of doing it that way, and once I tried it, I really like it especially from the viewpoint of the person playing or singing. Now I have a view of the outside instead of looking up into a corner, and it's wonderful. Whatever you decide, when you have your piano delivered, I'd advise trying it a couple of different ways while you have the movers there. I can't wait to see your pics; I'm sure it will be beautiful, and what a wonderful addition to your life! Oh, and I'm going to check into a way to raise the height to a different level. Right now mine has two settings; one very high, and another about 4 or 5 inches. I'd love something in between, and it looks like the piece that holds the top up is something you just screw into place. So maybe there is one that would allow me to keep it raised but just not so high. Thanks jenny, bigdog, and oceanna. I appreciate your interest and kind words. Oceanna, I do like your suggestion about a more colorful piano shawl. If I go back in that direction I will definitely try something else. I agree that when the lid is raised it's not the best for seeing the artwork, although that view is only a problem when you view it from a sitting position. When you are standing up or walking around, the art shows up better. I do love the three paintings there now and will most likely keep them on that wall. The painting of the young lady used to be in my kitchen, and I miss her there, so she may go back eventually. So that wall is probably in play......(LOL) as you said in one of your other posts, it really never ends, does it?...See MoreInterior designer - doesn't feel right
Comments (12)The hourly fee + markup on things ordered is not unusual at all. Her rates are in line to what normal designers charge in my area of LA. You need to end the relationship with this person ASAP. She sounds like the designer I used about 2 years ago. Mine provided no accountability or details of the time billed and when we did order something there were also no details of the product, brand, fabrics, size, etc. of the items ordered. Her terrible record keeping led to some drapes having to be redone 3 times. At first she blamed me, saying that I had changed my mind. Only after they arrived wrong the second time did she bother to figure out her notes and see that she had made the mistakes all along. She did credit us back for the extra labor charges and her hours managing the whole mess. To give you an idea on furniture prices. We ordered a custom sized sectional from Century at the LA design center, through the designer. It was sized to the exact measurements I had decided on for the space and was roughly 9' x 13' and the cost was $14k. Your designer has not listened to any of your requirements. Why show you a $10k sectional when you have stated that that is the total budget for that one room? Taking a week to answer an email is unacceptable ... at that rate the project will drag on for a year and she will be billing you for all those hours she spends looking for "dream pieces". Even my disorganized ex-designer answered calls/emails within 24 hours. Pull the bandaid ... end it quickly!...See MoreDarcey Bussell just doesn't quit!
Comments (33)Darcy Bussell's growth habit reminds me of Bishop's Castle, which has long canes with flowers at the end that flop downward in an attempt to kiss the ground. I don't allow that nonsense and cut the canes way back, and the next time that cane has bloomed it's not nearly as long. Each time I cut the canes back into the bush, and after a while it seems to get the message, while still blooming, and the bush is staying at the same size year after year instead of turning into a ground-eating monster. Not every rose will put up with this but these two do, although I must say your Darcy Bussell blooms a lot more than my Bishop's Castle, even in the heat....See Moreoomph18
