Powder Room Help - just doesn't look right
Comments (41)Needing to get the room "done", we used the boxes we had. Maybe will change out to something "lighter" like Jodie White Designs posted. I like that. I wanted to share the temporary "finished" product and say thanks for all the comments. We tried 10 different mirrors, but nothing seemed better than what we had. Still looking for something with a narrower frame but the one we have now is growing on me. Tundra on the walls and Deep Space on the ceiling. New light fixture. I feel like we need something on the wall (left side if you're facing the sink) - maybe a larger art work or a black and white framed print. I love the suggestion of the orchid on the counter to fill the space / extra height. Thank you!...See MorePowder Room Help - just redone and doesn't look "right"
Comments (20)your tile does look lavender. what is your vanity color? My sister has done a lighter lavender gray in her kitchen, with white cabinets. The tile is a soft grayish limestone look-a-like luxury vinyl. The whole room is so well put together, color wise. She had a kitchen designer help her. I don't know who chose the whites and gray. She probably chose the lavender gray, and the team chose the white for the cabinets and case work. The point I'm making, is get a color that goes with the tile, while in the room. The lighting will make a huge difference with color. And our own personal preferences. Type of lighting will change the color of paint throughout the day. Maybe you know all this. Paint color can be tricky because of the lighting. When I was choosing my paint for my second bathroom, I wanted something different than the typical greens/blues that I've used throughout the house. So I tried a tan. The room has tan and browns in it. Out of 4 samples I selected a good candidate. I painted the whole room and about puked when I was done. My neighbor loved it. To me it went pink, like antique pepto-bismol. I got another paint and redid the whole room lickity split, in a greenish blue gray, almost white. I love the color. It goes with my tiles, as did the other paint, but I just couldn't stand the pink that I saw. And I like pink. Anyway, I'd go with the color of the tile, matched with paint, darker or lighter, when you have the correct lighting you want in the room. I would then use accessories as complementary or analogous colors for interest....See MoreThis doesn't feel like a zone 5 winter...
Comments (20)Ken, How true you are. That killer cold spell in December followed by moderate weather thereafter all the way until a mild spring will make you think all is well. Yet the unexpected blackening, racing daily, down, down the canes in March and April, until the crown is reached, shows that the damage was done way back in December. The blackened canes, the result of fungi and bacteria feasting on dead tissue, were held at bay by winter's cold, the canes looking so healthy and green when in fact they were already mortally wounded. Comments (27)Hi Holly. Is the door in between the sofas the main door in and out of the room? Your biggest factor here is layout and paint. Sorry you just painted but its the wrong color to work with your existing pieces. Also dividing the paint color below the moulding strip is making the room feel squat because of the sharp color contrast. One color to the ceiling would be ideal.. Really white or a pale pale pink is your friend here and would have been preferable. The place to have brought in some color accents would be in a rug to ground the space and some pillows. The minty green isnt the right tone. I would pull the rose tone from your fireplace tile and a deeper green. accent with warm whites. A sheer warm white drapery panel won't make the window seem so heavy and you could even mount these to the outside of the window bump out. A round coffee table would be a better fit for the furniture layout. I would do chests on either side of your fireplace and I like where you were going with the round mirror but I would do one over each chest and then bring in a piece of art for over the fireplace. Try moving your art you have on either side of the fireplace above your sofa and see how that feels. They may be too small but its worth a try. Is there a reason for the moulding behind the sofa? Your black floor lamp is overwhelming the room and I would do something that ties into the gold mirrors. If that door us used then that would not be my choice for a place to have a lamp. Thats hard to say without seeing where your travel paths are in the room. A side table and lamp to anchor the corner near the windows. Here are some ideas to tie into what I am saying....See MoreSuzi AKA DesertDance So CA Zone 9b
