How are you decorating your yard and doors for fall/Halloween
Comments (10)Ooh, a Christmas Tree Shop. I'm so jealous, I wish they had one out here at the western end of the state. :( And I'm not driving to Syracuse from Buffalo to shop at one. I have to get going -- haven't done anything yet. If it weren't for the hardy mums I'd have only the impatiens for color right now, and the ornamental kale I bought last fall. Didn't think they were supposed to be hardy, but it overwintered just fine out in the flower bed. I have to swap out my leaf flag for my jack o'lantern flag, and my apple and plum basket slate welcome sign for the indian corn one. I still have to buy pumpkins, and some corn stalks to cover the lamp post and the clematis that isn't blooming on it anymore this year. Then I just toss my inherited halloween collection around the house indoors, and call it a day. If I'm feeling ambitious, I'll throw some garden stakes in and rope off the curved flower bed so that the trick or treaters don't step in it and trample the plants (and knock over the dry stack rock wall and break a foot in the process), but that's about it....See MoreHalloween Party Ideas for 3-4 year olds
Comments (3)Hi Pam, A little late for Halloween, but here is an easy game. It is a variation of drop the clothes pin in the bottle. You take Dum dum suckers, wrap a piece of kleenex over the top, tie just under sucker head with orange or black ribbon, use a marker to make "eyes" on your dum dum ghosts, then drop into a pumpkin or a witches cauldron. Another one is to tie marshmallows to strings, hang at appropriate heights. Then they have to eat the marshmallows off the strings with their hands behind their backs. Can also use donuts or apples too. Yet another. Give each child a piece of paper with the shape of a pumpkin drawn on it, magazine and a crayon. They must place the paper on the magazine, place magazine on their head and then draw a "face" on the jack o lantern while it is on their heads! Have fun, Kathy G in MI...See MoreMy Halloween decorating attempt
Comments (16)tam - I love all of your decorations. You did a beautiful job. It sounds like your sons had a great Halloween! The costume is wonderful and it is fun for the little ones if the giver of the candy is dressed for the occasion. We have only had one trick-o-treater in 18 years. Living in the country, it is dark and I can't blame any child for not wandering down my long dark driveway. I live here and think it is scary:,) Would you share where you purchased the lab lighted faux pumpkin? Thanks!...See MoreFall Decorating-what are you doing this year
Comments (36)bumblebeez and nanny2a...thanks so much for the nice compliments. You made my day. The pear was something I instantly liked so I just had to have it. ha. Most of my accessories I've had "forever," and it's always fun to treat myself to something new. The mirror is new too. I moved the original mirror I had over the chest to the upstairs hall. I've only had the starburst a few weeks. It came from Lamps Plus and was on sale for $149 when I bought it with free shipping. Now it's back to the original price of $169 but the shipping is still free. Here is the link. It has 16 out of 16 positive reviews. I've yet to add mine. Honestly, it's really beautiful in person. It doesn't convey very well at all in a photograph. You can't see the gold wash in the crevices. It's just enough to dress it up a bit and make it special. The gold is very subtle. I looked for a long time for a starburst. I loved lots of them, but most were SO pricey that I couldn't afford t hem. The mirror over the FP cost a whopping $39 so I decided to go for the starburst. "-) Let us know if you decide to get it and please post photos. I'd love to see it in different spaces. Here is a link that might be useful: Starburst Mirror...See MoreLars
