Houzz Users Share Their Outdoor Halloween Decorations
Creativity abounds in the Houzz community. Displays range from artistic gourd arrangements to skeletons playing poker
We put out the call recently for Houzz readers to share their Halloween style, and the responses were spirited. From friendly ghosts to giant spiders, decorated shrubs to ghoulish creatures playing poker, people have gone all out with their decorations this year. Take a look at how some creative Houzz users have bedecked their outdoor areas for Halloween 2020.
There’s a ghoulish game of Halloween poker being played outside the home of Houzz reader ravynne. She calls her Halloween style “traditional with a touch of whimsy.”
Sue54321 found a green alternative to big blow-up decorations — decorating the shrubs. The California heat wave necessitated a sun hat for the shrub’s jack-o’-lantern friend.

Houzz user sinfan mixed Halloween decor into the landscaping. The skulls edging the planting bed are a great finishing touch.
“Probably my style is traditional and fun-loving,” Lori DeBacker writes. The characters on her porch are plush and friendly.
Arachnophobes should probably avoid ringing the bell at Houzz reader Amy’s house this Halloween.
And those with a fear of spiders should definitely avoid the big webs at Kristin Schrader’s home.

Of course, no Halloween is complete without gourds. Schrader created an artistic cairn from colorful ones.
Schrader also turned some select pumpkins into jack-o’-lanterns with some very specific moods. The one on the bottom is looking unhappily at the big spiderwebs in the yard.
“I’m in a senior housing building this year, so I won’t be doing Halloween. But Halloween at the house I just left after 15 years is what I will miss the most,” thescotsman1953 writes. “We lived near an elementary school and got about 150 kids to our door every year, and we went all-out, even got dressed up in costume to pass out candy … so much fun.”
Special lighting makes the porch scene seen above appear much spookier once the sun goes down.
The orange front doors on Houzz user seisenhauer1’s house gave her a head start with her decor. “I’m letting my midcentury-inspired door color accent my fall decor this year,” she says. She strategically decorates so her display lasts through Thanksgiving with just a few tweaks.
Margui Thomas maximized the Halloween potential of her small front porch, mixing bats, a black cat, jack-o’-lanterns and skeletons. “I would say I’m a bit of a traditionalist, but I like to mix themes up,” she says.
In an entry area of a similar size, Alicia Baehler created a welcoming scene.
A ghost haunts the home of Susan Dilger and hangs out on the balcony in October. New technologies have upped the Halloween ante — she used LED lights to illuminate the ghost’s eerie presence.
The yard of Cari Pollard has been transformed into a spooky cemetery. Would anyone dare to walk through here on All Hallow’s Eve?
