Comments (7)Window treatments would help - choose your favorite color, or a color from one of the pieces of artwork. I think both pieces of art have a maroon/cranberry mat - that may be a good color for window treatments. You may want to have a decorator assist - JC Penney is a good place for reasonably priced window treatments & some stores have decorators to assist. I see many places for accents/artwork - the wall next to the fireplace, the walls on either side of the windows on the TV wall, and the large wall where your trunk is. Perhaps a larger piece of furniture in place of the trunk - a side table where you can display items, even the trunk! Perhaps an area rug to anchor your furniture too....See MoreHow can I add some color to backyard
Comments (21)There are a bunch of spirea as suggested by Ridley above that are small enough for your space, with either gold or green foliage and white or pink flowers such as Gold Mound, Gold Flame, etc. but you will need to research carefully since there are also many varieties of spirea that would be too large for your space. And likewise, there are a a couple of summersweet/Clethra alnifolia that are small enough such as Sixteen candles or Crystaltina, though most aren’t, and even the smallest ones tend to sucker and will need pruning to stay in bounds. But most of Ridley’s suggestions are too large for a 4’ bed such as Mock orange/Philadelphus, Viburnum, most Potentilla shrubs, and most of the panicled hydrangeas, though I gave you one above, Bobo, that might just fit. The other species of hydrangeas mostly aren’t hardy enough to bloom in zone 4....See MoreWhat can I improve: Should I add a rug to this room?
Comments (12)Don't use a clock in a dining area. I think the mirrors are a little bit "churchy" feeling. Use painter's tape on the floor and tape out a "rug" 36-42" larger than your table top. Does it run into the baseboards or the furniture? If so, then you need to rethink things. A beautiful piece of original art no wider than the firebox opening should hang 5" above the mantel and set the tone for the rest of your color way here. Right now, the room feels quite cold and exposed. An accent wall is a pretty good idea with the skylight brightening things a lot....See MoreBarbie Rolle
