..ok..so what i wanted to say..they seem like nice people..and good for their kids. probably very boring to be on that TV..

I'm glad, I always worry about the kids in those situations. I haven't watched the show recently but I admire what the Gaines' have accomplished. I sometimes watch The Little Couple and I hope they also bow out before the kids get too much older.

I've never seen the show but from the pictures I saw here on a huge thread about them the decor always seemed to look very similar from house to house. Obviously many people loved it since the show was so popular. It looks as though they'll have their hands full with their many other enterprises.

Yay, no more shiplap. I am tired of it, although I enjoyed it at first. Chip has grown tiresome with his antics. Kids are cute, though. I don't think it's a good idea to have your kids on tv.

I like the show and I like the remodels and decor. But it is all the same and has become boring. Five seasons of the same thing is enough and I think they are smart to bow out now while they still have some of their original appeal and before they become totally redundant.

All those reviews, and they're good ones! I don't know how they've managed to keep up with all they do, and think it's great that they're slowing down.

I have been a fan and think they have done remarkably well, both professionally and in their personal life. Their kids appear to be well-adjusted so far, and I expect from reading their statement they want to keep it that way. The oldest daughter seemed to have an interest in decorating on one episode, and Joanna appeared to have great patience and skill in teaching her.

Yippie Yi Yo Cowpie! I had fun watching the first season, but then I so wanted them to do different versions of the show in different cities, with a different designer and in a different social/cultural milieu When that didnt happen, I quickly lost interest.

Next, daytime talk show...

Joanne is quite the entrapreneur and I'm sure she realizes that the show has run its course. They've also had a lot of trouble with people renting out or selling the houses they did and being surprised that they don't look like they do on TV (they don't get to keep the staged furniture).

She's got furniture lines, magazines, the store in Waco, a restaurant in the store - you name it, this girl is a marketing genius.

I've always felt that their children looked VERY uncomfortable being trotted out near the end of each show. I'm glad that will stop - not fair to them.

Every house she did looked pretty much the same except the very contemporary mid-century modern one. It was probably her most imaginative design job and it looked fabulous. I understand it's being flipped.

Grates on my nerves...

Fives years seems like a good run. I enjoyed the show in small doses. All the extra personality parts of the show I can do without..get to the renovation/design please...I think we have seen all she has to offer. I am ready for a new perspective.

I stopped watching these types of shows many years ago. But, with all the hype, I know who all the players on all the fixer-upper type shows.

I agree that it's a good idea for their family to be just a family and not reality stars.

i heard they were not happy that their "fixer-uppers" were being sold. they tried to institute a clause that stated new home owner could not sell. i am sure that did to go over too well with the clients.

pretty cheesy that they don't tell you or their clients that they don't get to keep the furniture. take all the staging out and its the same old same old. although i did like some her features. once they were on board with the show., a team from HGTV did most of the design. i think she consulted.

either way the show was a hit and it really launched their careers., good for them!!!

I'm sure that when someone signs a contract to be part of this show that the fact that they don't get to keep the furniture is known. It's along the lines of the many House Hunter shows, that THE house is already chosen before the show shoots, and the others are just there for those watching.

Yeah it's pretty well known that the furniture and everything is for staging purposes only in most of these shows. It's not exactly a bait and switch.

Didn't they preview at the last show of last season a "new" show -- Behind the Design where she explains her choices, etc. on what goes into the design of the house? I wonder if that didn't get good ratings and will not go forwrard this season? I like the interaction between the two although I do think that the show is staged and what looks like a normal easy life (play with the kiddos, go show houses and then work on THAT house, kiddos come by with cupcakes while Momma works the night away) is not quite like that in reality. But, hey, look at Martha Stewart who on her show was the one that shoveled the compost, made a 9 course dinner and made fabulous crafts for centerpieces when in reality it took a whole crew to do that! So all on TV is not what it seems. I wish them well and I think that with everything that they've got going BECAUSE of the show (let's face it, there would be no mechandise, no books, no silos if there was no show) that they should do well. I'm sure even without a show they will be in demand for personal appearances and as I understand the daily count of visitors to Waco and Magnolia Market is in the THOUSANDS.

Yes, every house on Fixer Upper ended up looking the same so the show got old for me very quickly. I feel the same about Property Brothers......I think it's time for their show to end as well. HGTV needs an infusion of new shows. As mentioned before here, wish they'd bring back some of the old shows like Designer Challenge and the shows that were actually lessons in design like Sarah Richardson, Candice Olsen, etc. I still watch HH here and there but it also gets tiresome.

I found her decor less obnoxious than a lot of what is currently trendy, but it grieved me mightily to watch them disembowel nice old houses that had done nothing to deserve it, and I loathed the show for that reason.

However, much as I would like to be happy it's going off the air, I see that now they are everywhere. I can't walk into any store except the smallest local grocer without seeing Magnolia Home trash (and yeah, the quality is mostly trash, even if it's cute) all over the place. Sigh.

Joanna Gaines' designs are formulaic. The verbal banter is the same every show. It is time that HGTV make a change. I don't want to see anymore fixer up type shows. Joaniepoanie makes a good point.
