Granite Counter Experts, I need some advice...
Comments (4)OOh very pretty!!!! I'll tell you what worked for me. I went to a granite yard, looked around and asked them who they recommended as a fabricator. I should have seen the answer coming when the owner told me, "Well, we have a lot of guys who are all very good," and shoved a dozen or so cards at me. I pushed him a little and realized he wasn't going to recommend anyone because he had a business relationship with all of them and didn't want to be seen as playing favorites. So I went up there 3 or 4 more times, always made myself very visible and always chatted with the owner a bit. After we built a bit of a relationship, I finally got him to divulge the name of the place he really liked, who did the owner's home... And they did a fantastic job!...See Morecounter top height advice
Comments (14)I think you could but then I'm notoriously unhandy and have been set straight a number of times by DH or contractors on the exact was to accomplish something. In my old kitchen with an L-shaped arrangement the range sat a one end of the short leg on a raised platform. The sink was in the middle of the long leg and the dishwasher sat next to it on a raised platform. All of the base cabinets were built with a standard toekick and an extra 2 inches in the useful space so that the countertop sat at 38" high. I don't see why the cabinets couldn't also sit on a raised plywood base along with the appliances but you're probably better off asking the cabinet maker as they would have the practical knowledge of how to do this....See MoreStained my granite countertop...need advice on using poulstice
Comments (3)Folks- NEVER use Plumber's Putty on Natural Stone - it has oils that will stain the stone as sjetexas has found out... Here's a poultice recipe that has worked for me over the last 23 years: A. mix plaster of paris into some acetone in a plastic throw away cup B. mix to the consistancy of pancake batter C. apply to the spot and overlap 1 inch past where the spot ends (eg- of you have a 2inch diameter spot, the plaster/acetone needs to be 4 inches in diameter) D. cover the plaster/acetone with saran wrap E. tape down the edges of the saran wrap with 3M BLUE TAPE F. allow the poultice to set for 24 hours G. remove EVERYTHING (poultice tape & saran wrap) after 24 hours........ the spot will either be gone - or way lighter, in which case you may have to repeat this process for really deep set stains and stubborn spots - but it works hope that helps ya kevin...See MoreNeed advice - laminate countertop, granite island
Comments (17)Another question, would Formica Jet Sequoia on perimeter work ok with Fantasy Brown island or too much movement in Jet Seq? Or would White Delicatus or Bianco Antico go better with Jet Sequoia?...See MoreAlexander H
