Seeds at the end of the season (can you buy them?)
Comments (13)Being in the right place at the right time sure helps if you are a frugal shopper, thrift store browser, or garage sale junkie. "It doesn't hurt to ask." is the best advice I can give anyone looking for a bargain. This year I couldn't afford to put out the annuals that I am now growing. Didn't start as many indoors as I would have liked to but I have plenty of American Seed packets unopened yet. I got them by asking at the local hardware store last fall. He gave me all the unsold seed packets in the cardboard rack. About a brown grocery bag full for $2. Lots of veggie seeds in there plus annual flower seeds. I think it was worth the expenditure....See MoreSome late season images of a show dahlia grower's garden
Comments (4)Hi raymondo17, Thank you for the comments, yes this area is one of the popular tourist destinations in Australia. The scenery is very green & fertile (due to the area having been the remains of an ancient volcano). Population density in this area is predominantly large acreage properties on undulating hills. If any one is wanting to visit this area will be happy to show them the area. I remember staying near the Grand Canyon (30 years ago), with the family of a friend, it was equally beautiful in a different way. Life is what you want to make it? allan...See MoreBuying Cut Dahlias Off Season

Comments (19)Lovely bloom and I see several more buds. I don't disbub my dahlias though have been told that doing so allows the remaining flowers to get larger. This year some critter is nipping the flower off. I find the flower with barely any stem on the ground. Today I cut the recent bloom shortly after it opened and brought it inside. Planted mine late as well so not many blooms yet. If I have lots of blooms and am expecting a frost I make bouquets to share with my neighbors. Had enough for eight bouquets last fall....See More- 6 years ago
