Moving across the country with tropical plants

Hello, I live in Alaska and will be moving to Pennsylvania in December. I will be driving! I have a house full of plants and am begrudgingly willing to part with most of them. However my Hawaiian ginger plant is my baby and I would like to take it with me. Any suggestions on how I should transport it? It is about 3 years old and has yet to flower. I brought it back as a root from Hawaii and it took almost a full year for it to start growing. It now has 4 stalks and is about 2-3 feet tall. I am very proud of this plant and will be heart broken if it dies or i have to part with it. Please hep!
