The grass in back is bermuda. DO NOT OVERSEED. There's nothing wrong with it that proper watering, mowing, and some fertilizer won't fix. You can buy bermuda seed, but it is not clear that this is a seeded variety of bermuda. And in any case the time to seed bermuda is the hottest months of summer. Mulch mow at 1 inch. Fertilize monthly with a high N fertilizer. Here is some general guidelines for watering.

Watering: Deep and infrequent is the mantra for watering. This is for all turf grass all over the place. Deep means 1 inch all at one time. Put some cat food or tuna cans around the yard, and time how long it takes your sprinkler(s) to fill all the cans. Memorize that time. That will be the time you water from now on. My hose, sprinkler and water pressure takes 8 full hours to fill the cans. Your time will likely be less. I like gentle watering. As for watering frequency, that depends on the daytime air temperature. With temps in the 90s, deep water once per week. With temps in the 80s, deep water once every 2 weeks. With temps in the 70s, deep water once every 3 weeks. With temps below 70, deep water once a month. Note that you have to keep up with quickly changing temps in the spring and fall. This deep and infrequent schedule works in Phoenix and in Vermont, so it should work for you. The reason for deep and infrequent is to grow deeper, more drought resistant roots and to allow the soil to dry completely at the surface for several days before watering again. If it rains, reset your calendar to account for the rainfall.

The front yard looks like centipede, but it could be something else. Centipede thrives in acidic soil with little to no care except low mowing.

Also, some of the edge areas of my lawn have very few grass blades, would proper watering/fertilizer still bring back the baldy balding areas?....I'm also battling my wife's baby (German sheapard) who has acid pee that is leaving burned crop circles around the back lawn.

Don't expect bermuda to grow near the north, east, or west sides of a fence. You'll need to make a flower bed or something there. Bermuda needs 6 good hours of direct sunlight to thrive.

Dog burns are a sign of not enough fertilizer and/or biologically wasted soil. The grass will come back quickly if you put a heaping handful of table sugar on each spot. Water it down and the grass will come back. The sugar stimulates the soil biology and those microbes will process the urine. It is not the acidity - it is the fresh urea which overpowers the microbes that normally process urea. What you really need is at least one annual dose of organic fertilizer in addition to the monthly doses of chemical fert for the bermuda. Or you could replace a monthly with organic. Or you could replace all the monthlys with organic. I use alfalfa pellets (rabbit chow) for an organic fertilizer. 15-20 pounds per 1,000 square feet is the app rate.

wow,...you are extremely helpful,...your like a lawn scientist! I was googling for a fix of the urine burns,...my wife refused to give her baby drugs,...I will try the sugar method. I guess I better put pesticide around the sugar to not get ants.
