I told you I'd have a story to tell when I got back....
Comments (7)Zebra mussel, LOL! I really did laugh out loud at that one :) I found a deer skull last year right by a path I walk at least once a month - most of the skeleton was there. I cannot believe I never saw this dead deer before it was skeletonized (or that dear doggies didn't whiff it). I brought the skull home, which has one nice antler (that was buried in the ground) - and one gnawed off stump that the rodents had been at. I have to wonder if it floated downstream and was washed to where I saw it? There's a large stream nearby, but I don't recall a flooding event big enough to move a buck carcass. Makes me wonder if I'm as observant as I like to think......See MoreGot my design back from KD, advice sought please
Comments (9)Thanks for the feedback, Chicagoans: I added dimensions and layout and more info below. Sweeby: The island will primarily be used for kids (in K and 1st now, so a long time to go with a heavily used kitchen I hope!) homework, projects, Breakfast, Lunch and maybe some dinners. I want to keep the island all one level with no appliances etc so we can spread out.. The little drawers on the island would be for the kids to store their papers etc. I wanted them on the outside of the kitchen work areas... The other side of the island is a walkway and then panty space. More info: We will have a dining table along the back of the peninsula. I added approx distances and more info. I also posted an older house layout, although only look to it for general layout. The bathroom will be set back a foot (smaller shower), so we will gain space in the kitchen in front of the cabinet pantry area and the peninsula has been moved in to make the kitchen a bit smaller and room for the bench and dining table in the family room area... I'd be glad to give more details if needed. Dianeloise:I am trying to enjoy the process! Maybe this will teach me to have more patience!...See MoreFinally...I got my _ back!
Comments (12)Hello Joan. Glad to hear that you got your dash back, or in your case, an 'underscore'. This remined me of a poem that I found whilst doing other ssearches. I've copied it below. How to Spend your Dash I read of a man who stood to speak at a funeral of a friend. He referred to the dates on her tombstone  . He noted that first came her date of birth And spoke the following date with tears, But he said what mattered most of all Was the dash between those years. (1900  1970) For that dash represents all the time That she spent alive on earth And now only those who loved her Know what that little line is worth. For it matters not, how much we own, The cars the house the cash What matters is how we live and love And how we spend our dash. So think about this long and hard Are there things youÂd like to change?? For you never know how much time is left That can still be rearranged. If we could just slow down enough To consider whatÂs true and real, And always try to understand The way other people feel. And be less quick to anger, And show appreciation more, And love the people in our lives Like we have never loved before. If we treat each other with respect And more often wear a smile Remembering that this special dash Might only last a little while. So when your eulogyÂs being read With your lifeÂs actions to rehash Would you be proud of the things they say About how you spent your dash? Comments (10)Dotmom, I know what you mean about "a good car guy." I don't know what we will do if ours would decide to retire. I sure hope one of the guys in the shop take over and just continue. We drive our cars untill they die too! We considder the van we have now fairly new. It's a 1995 Honda Oddesey. I think that might be the first year they made vans. I'm glad you have it back finally, and I hope it will keep you on the road for many years....See More- 9 years ago
