Ugh! I hate it! Creative solution, anyone?
Comments (23)Wow, it never occurred to me that someone would pour chemicals down the drain like that!! *** Well, it's not just chemicals POURED down drains. It's things that WASH into drains, and eventually flow to streams and lakes (and, out here, the sea). We live in an agricultural area very near the ocean. Our local farmers are using fewer sprayed chemicals. Even so, things sprayed, misted, or otherwise applied to plants wash into our creeks and flow to the sea. Lawn fertilizers, with, or without pesticides, create HUGE damage to fish and other aquatic life. Frogs with both male and female sexual organs and extra legs or heads. Areas of the ocean where there's no available oxygen to support marine life. Stuff like that. Very ugly. Jeri...See MoreCabinetry around fridge - thoughts or creative solutions?
Comments (5)My kitchen remodel is a hodge podge. The new cabinets that were just built were made to flow with a pantry we had built over three years ago. That cabinet is 24 inches, top to bottom. When we had our island made last fall, we bought a counter-depth refrigerator to give us more room between the island and fridge. I LOVE that my refrigerator isn't sticking out in the kitchen so much anymore. Anyway, when we did new cabinets in December, I opted NOT to have a cabinet built over the refrigerator. I really don't like those deep cabinet so high because they just become black holes. So, my solution is to put a thick shelf over the refrigerator, bridging the two cabinets. There will be two different groove on it, at different depths, so I can just rest pictures against the wall and they catch in the groove. I will also put a tall vase and maybe a plant. Underneath I will likely put a few shallow baskets. Our carpenter is making the shelf now. Once it's in and I have some pics/accessories up there (and like it LOL), I'll share pics on here. Good luck finding your solution. Hopefully you'll get some good ideas from responses here....See MoreNeed a creative backspash solution
Comments (3)Since the 1" gap is on one side of the range and therefore discontinuous with the overhang on the other side, you could "cheat" the overhang and decrease the gap. A strip could be laminated to the backsplash rear to make up the approx. 1/2". A little juggling with the above and any taper with out-of-square walls could fool the eye of most viewers....See MoreAnyone have a creative solution for this (and funny too)?
Comments (48)A couple of years ago the municipality provided us with two big bins with bars on the side that an arm from the recycling and garbage trucks reach out to grab and hoist to dump into their bins. A hundred dollars a year is added to our tax bill. The recycling bin, that tapers slightly and has rounded corners is about 4 feet high and 3 feet across at the top, and has a pair of wheels not quite a foot high. The garbage bin is somewhat smaller, with smaller wheels. Neither is much fun to push/drag down a muddy or snowy lane about 500 feet long. As I produce little refuse, by the time food and other waste goes to compost, and quite a bit to the large recycling bin, and metals for hauling to the scrapyard ... there's not a lot for the garbage bin, so the bins don't go down to the roadside very often. Honesty rather compels me to admit that some of the waste goes into a pile out between the equipment parking lot and the field to be burned, occasionally (a couple of times a year). Seldom related to weiners and/or marshmallows. ole joyful...See Morecpartist
