I wrote Johnson, asked a few questions, here's the reply: How much bigger of a door would be needed to cover the doorframe when closed? Your door would need to be 1 1/4" bigger than the finished opening. Can a lock be installed if desired? Yes, you would need to build out the jamb on the side that the door is closing into. Then, the door would lock into the jamb using a pocket door lock. Is there a gap between the door and the frame when closed, and if so, how much, or is there a way you would be able to conceal a gap? Approximately 1/2" or less depending on the thickness of the door. I think you are talking about the distance between the door and the wall? It is not noticeable at all, and when the door is closed (being 1 1/4" wider than the opening), you won't be able to see into the bathroom. I was thinking, if the 1/2" or less she mentions above, and that the door covers the doorway 3/4" on each side, if there is a sound issue, why couldn't one put some type of a "buffer" - I thought about something like that furry strip on a window that slides up and down??? I actually don't think I'd be losing anything along the wall this door would slide on, it's only 3' wide as it is, and the only thing on there is a towel bar and in-wall heater, which is going to be removed when we re-tile. I figured, I could just mount the towel bar on the back of the door, I wouldn't be losing anything. Maybe put a recessed storage cabinet in between a couple studs and actually gain some space. The vanity in there now is 42"wx22"d, I think going with one that's 36"wx18"d will just give me more floorspace, but I'm thinking all the time and not jumping the gun on this. I saw an interesting vanity that makes me wonder if I can possibly keep with a 42" but have it smaller in depth on the left side against the shower wall. See the link below for what I saw. It's just mind-boggling on how expensive some of this vanities are! Thanks to all - this is not going to be an easy decision on what to do, once I think I know, something I see changes my concept. rockybird, I would love to hear what your architect says. I thought $2K was really high too. We went to IKEA to see if we could customize Pax doors this weekend and I think it's possible, but it was so crowded, couldn't find a sales associate that could help us and we were too hungry to deal with it. So we left. I usually can't deal with IKEA unless it's on a random Tuesday morning and no one is there. justgotabeme, that site is awesome! I've bookmarked that for our exterior doors, when we change out. I love some of their designs! We are going back and forth over the doors and the current plan is just to get plan birch panel doors (like the above photo ineffablespace posted), drop a similar header and just call it a day. That would run us about half of the price of those glass IKEA-esque doors, including labor/installation. And it would provide some warmth and wood tones in an otherwise very white hallway. The ventilation will be in the header. Too many decisions, too many decisions. I still need to start my Christmas shopping!! :)

We had to re-do our laundry closet configuration last year to be able to get side by side machines into the same space. We used to have stacked front loader with dryer on top. Ours is located in the master bathroom. We had bi-fold doors prior which made for nice ease of use and clean lines/look when closed. We tended to keep the bi-folds open a fair bit however to allow more air flow to the washer to prevent mold or mildew. It made for an unkept look with the doors open in our opinion, but was better than mildew. Anyhow, in an effort to keep the space workable if and when repair time comes, we choose not to do bi-folds because the bi-folds would have to be removed and rehung for machine or plumbing servicing. We have friends who could not get their bi-folds to ever hang properly after being taken down and we thought why not hang drapes or curtains instead of sliding doors or bi-folds in our situation? We did put up a nice rod and have drapes instead of doors until we come up with a better idea. I like the look of closed doors better, but really, the air flow to the washer is great in our case now when I have the drapes closed. It was a give and take in our case. I hope you come up with a good plan for your laundry closet. Best of luck.

@kawerkamp: My ledge sink is 50". I did not have a ton of space but I fell in love with the concept of a ledge sink with a movable cutting board. It is indeed very useful and makes prepping a breeze. I also had very good experience with Dan Sullivan. Send him an email or call him, and he will respond to you within hours, even during weekends! @R S: I went through many iterations of the design including a couple which involved making the kitchen open. But it just did not flow with the rest of the house. Also it did not suit our style of cooking. I am not against open kitchens, it just has to work for you!
