Comments (41)Wooo!!! Cat, I am stuck at home because of the snow storm so wandered around here not looking at anything in particular and came upon your thread. I totally agree with you on the shower curtain choice. Regardless of whether I have the money to spare or not, keeping those suckers clean is a nuisance over time. We have a glass shower door that was installed back in 2003 and I can't tell you how much I hate cleaning it. Not that the door is all that dirty, but a shower curtain is way easier, and you can change the look/style whenever you feel like it. Can't do that with a pricey shower door. Anyway, everything looks lovely as usual, including the "prom" dress :-) Love, love those circular tiles, and the floor tiles that look like fabric. Gorgeous. What colour is that again? It looks greyish on my monitor....See MoreSmall bathroom door options - French door? Barn door?
Comments (19)Elphaba, I'm in Houston. We have completely gutted our "new" house and are in the process of rebuilding. Throughout the house, we have installed pockets for 4 pocket doors. One of those is in the master bath. I am really excited to be getting those doors out of the way. I can share my experience. We have 3 pocket doors in our office here, and we have not had any problems. The office is on a slab, and the thermostat is only kept at a comfortable level 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. This means that it gets fairly humid in there on the weekends. The office pocket doors are rarely used, but when I do use them, they work just fine. They were installed about 3 years ago without any problems. It's true that it is humid outside, but I wouldn't think with central air that it would be any more humid than anyplace else on the inside of your house. Of course a bathroom is more humid than other rooms, but if your cabinet hardware isn't sticking or rusting, I would think that the pocket door would behave in the same way. At least that's what I'm hoping since we just installed 4!!! My vote is for the pocket door. Best of luck with your project! Enduring, that's great info on the pocket doors. Thank you for sharing. Comments (4)Are there ways to ensure security of the door--latch, lock, or something like that? sure - you can use a simple hook and eye, will cost you around 2 dollars at he hardware store. Also, are there small cracks at the edge of the door between the wall trim and the door itself that compromise privacy? Of course, but how large or small depends on your contractor's talent and your pocketbook. To minimize gaps your wall will need to be very , very , very , very , very straight AND plumb. The door you use will have to be free of twist and warp also AND remain that way. Normal bulges in the drywall from tape and mud joints will be very troublesome. A level 4 or 5 finish is what you are after. good luck...See MoreNeed Opinions, Bathroom Vanity Function vs Style? (pics)
Comments (15)If you will be using the area every day and the vanity is the main storage cabinet, by all means go with the Kraftmaid. Bending all the way down to get into those sliding doors would get old, quick. Pull-out shelves inside would make it much better, though. KM has a few darker glazed finishes that are very rich looking. We went with the white foil with beadboard in the kids bath and even though I don't use them on a daily basis, I LOVE them! We upgraded to the soft close and every drawer opens completely -- no more digging around the back for things. We changed the false front drawers under the sinks to tilt-out's with full stainless steel baskets... those fit toothbrushes, floss, toothpaste and much more. If you have great knobs and/or pulls, some people seem to notice those and not the cabinet themselves. I've had people not notice the beadboard because they were so drawn to the knobs....See MoreUser
