Comments (15)Our guide in Madeira warned us repeatedly about some common plant on the island that if you touch it and subsequently rub your eyes, it can cause blindness. However he never made it clear exactly which plant he was referring to. He seemed to be pointing at a cactus-y looking plant like in the bottom left of Jim's picture, but the guide may have been pointing to the plant next to the cactus-y one. I took this picture of where the guide was pointing, but I don't know which one is the bad one. Comments (11)I love spiders! and hummers...and a cemetery can be beautiful. I also love fresh from the garden veggies too! But I am a bit overwhelmed with what daughter brought over yesterday. Comments (14)We have plenty of red wing black birds here in summer, but they are so wary that they do not bother people. Its the opposite; Its hard to get close enough to get a shot, and when you are close enough, they contrive to keep something between you and them. However, they do not nest in town. Our town has plenty of wet lands outside its perimeter and that is where the red wings are. They love our cat-tail swamps. At this time of the year, other types of black birds are forming huge flocks in preparation for migration. 8 years agoThis is Miss Cookie. The photo is from November 1999. Dh had her for a couple of years before we met. She was a stray that had showed up at his house. She was an indoor cat, but liked to go sit outside on the porch.
8 years agoTony likes to play in the bags that the cruise lines give away. He really enjoys wrapping that handle strap around his body.
8 years agoNice to see some Monarchs--it has been a very lean year for them here. I keep hoping they just have a lot of food in the wild due to the rains last winter.
8 years agolast modified: 8 years agoPagoda Cat. This cat was the resident cat at Ngoc Son Temple in Hanoi, Vietnam. He was sleeping on the steps to the entrance and was so relaxed that people had to step over him in order to get inside. There were 100's of people there which didn't bother the cat at all:
