Comments (12)This Forest Service worker gave a lengthy, colorful recounting of the events of that day, and really brought it to life. One of the things he noted is that a different volcanologist was scheduled to be observing the volcano, but he needed to attend a meeting at the university where was a grad student, so he arranged for a different volcanologist to man his post, for just one day -- May 18th. That other scientist wanted to see off a grad student of his that was returning to Germany on the morning of the 18th, so he arranged for yet another volcanologist, named David Johnston to cover the post that morning just until 10:00 A.M. Mr. Johnston reluctantly agreed, and the volcano blew at about 8:30. Comments (16)lgmz_gaz, I'm glad my monarchs are at your place this year. This is the first year I have a lot of un-nibbled plants--usually I am transferring caterpillars from stripped sticks to foliage elsewhere in the yard. I finally gave up and cut the plants to the ground. ----------------- Funny about the snake sign photos. I just assume rattlesnakes are everywhere, and signs should just let me know where they are not. ;)...See More
11 years agoThe bee was still alive and struggling. The spider was being careful. 15 minutes later the bee was still and the spider was far away. I could not get a good shot of them like that.
11 years agoI love spiders! and hummers...and a cemetery can be beautiful.
I also love fresh from the garden veggies too! But I am a bit overwhelmed with what daughter brought over yesterday. This includes 2 pints of canned pizza sauce. There is still a similar amount of veggies left in the fridge that she brought last week, including 2 pints of dill pickles.

Last night as I walked into the bedroom, I saw a wolf spider with a leg span of almost 3 inches. I got a picture but didn't copy it off the camera. I didn't know it would be today's theme :-)
Here's a Jumping Spider that I saw on a hornet nest. My thought was: "This won't end well"
11 years agoNot my picture per se, but MY boy. The flutes like to catch each other and then post it online. One of my favorite people took this one. She's a sweetheart, refusing to call me anything other than Mrs. _____, even when I said, "We're family in band. Call me Robin."
