Can't decide on countertop
Comments (8)View the kitchen galleries on this forum and the completed kitchens gallery. There are so many beautiful kitchens with many different granite selections. Don't limit your search to just your 'favorite' colors. There are so many color combinations in granite that will look great with your kitchen. There is a thread 'your granite name' in this forum where you can see many granite slabs or finished countertops posted by forum members. It is only a couple pages below this page. When we were looking for the perfect slab for our kitchen, we limited ourselves to certain colors we liked but fell in love with a granite whose color was not in our initial color group. It is a medium dark color - vyara extra, that turned out to be a wonderful match for our medium cherry stained cabinets. I posted some pictures of our completed kitchens on saturday in this forum. Search for "Vyara or Vyarra" and you will find it. Good luck in your search there are many colors of granite that will be the 'perfect' choice for your kitchen...See MoreCountertops! Comments (23)marti8a, I'm not a granite fan either, and I'll say it out loud. :-) There are factors other than durability which bother some people, factors which might also be true for you. I had it in my previous kitchen and found it too loud and clanky. It's way too cold on winter mornings before the heat kicks in (I live in Maine). Also, mine was polished and, aesthetically, I dislike that kind of coffee-table surface in a working kitchen. And speaking to what might have been your real worry about tipping that little glass bottle, I was indeed forever breaking water glasses on the sink cutout overhang or by just dropping them. So folks needn't obsess on the friend/food coloring story; there are many quite legitimate reasons someone might not choose stone beside the staining issue. :-) That said: Marti, what do you like best of the surfaces you've seen/experienced? If you love metal but think stainless is too modern for your vision, have you considered pewter, zinc or copper? Any of these can be very cottage-vintagey. (Full disclosure for this bias: I have copper countertops.) And stainless really IS authentic for the early 20th century, in case that's a worry. Best of luck!...See MorePlease post pictures of your counter-tops

Comments (42)for the handles, may I suggest something to pick up on the hues in the flooring? A little more copper toned. you have light cabs, light floors. I think throwing in a dark ORB w/o actual copper highlights would be too much of a contrast. IMO. cypress park Sandra, I like the porcelain one better than the other one. Does the backsplash have to be done immediately? If the tones in the porcelain tile you picked clash w/the ivory tones in the counter, it could be a problem. However, I did find some copper toned ones that should be avail. these are porcelain/SS, and treated so as not to stain or tarnish. I LOVE these for your kitchen. timeless and gorgeous. They are probably not super cheap, but it would be worth it for me. http://www.miusartmosaics.com/arabesque-lantern-beacon-copper-tile-in these would also work. the site is here: maybe they have them in stock.http://www.westsidetile.com/arabesque-tiles/ i like this one too. notice the copper faucet. beautiful w/the glass mosaic. if you got the cream countertop, this would look amazing w/your floors. this last one is a copper colored slate/quartzite....See More- 6 years ago
