Hi Pamela! I would check out CB2 for dining furniture. They have really stepped up their game lately, and I feel like their modern designs will compliment your living room. They are also super affordable! Another suggestion...you got to paint those walls! I'm sorry but that yellow does not want to live with your pretty living room furniture. And window treatments can totally soften the whole space too! Check out Jenny Komenda from Little Green Notebook. She makes Ikea drapes look like custom! Good luck. :)

Yes, I agree to have the sofa facing the fireplace and flank the fireplace with the chairs. IMO the only thing that is really not working here is the coffee table, it doesn't seem to have enough weight with the glass top and open bottom. and ottoman with a tray might be nice in front of the fireplace. I feel like the dining room could have a buffet to cozy it up a bit. I think you would need a pretty large rug, which might overwhelm but it could be a great way to tie it into the adjoining space. Over the fireplace, you need to put art, something that ties to the large piece that is in the dining room that will also bring cohesion to the space. You could put that mirror over the cabinet you have in the dining room on the short wall. Maybe you could try the rug from the living room in the dining room just to see if you like a rug in there...

Thank you very much. I figured it would be better to pair back and simplify things. My husband likes the cabinets but I thought about painting them black or grey, if I can't convince him it would be better to remove them completely. Love the idea about the black frame on the fireplace.

Yes! You are right. But we're going for kind of a coastal vibe so the black doesn't work as well. But REALLY appreciate your creative input. One of the reasons I liked the fan idea (besides the fact that it gets really hot sometimes and we don't have air conditioning) is that it wouldn't block the sightline of the open concept room. But maybe it is good to have some varying heights of objects so it doesn't look like a doctor's office as someone mentioned above. How far down would you hang the lamp? Looks like about 2 feet?
