Geese are in the skies here, but they fly from farm pond to city park and back again frequently. However, I do see birds starting to flock together.

Tonight it's suppose to get down to 39 degrees.

Geese passed overhead this afternoon in southern Maryland. i think they are here earlier than usual. On the other hand, the young osprey are still here frolicking.

I am way north of most of you,definitely the other Canadians here.

The geese have been "on the move"south now for over 2 weeks.

Nights right now are averaging approx 34F...pretty close to frost for us.

Days,at least today (and predicted for this week),have been averaging 70F.....and sunny for a change.

We have had rain every day since May.

Nothing unusual; this is the time of the year our summer song-bird migrate. Several small song birds migrate at night, therefore, you may not notice. Ornithologists think they may do this to avoid enemy predators.

Starlings and blackbirds are forming large flocks and will move south. In spring and early summer, these same birds vie for nesting and feeding territory and will space apart. After the nestlings have fledged, that behavior subsides and by fall, these same birds flock together with their new offspring. Hopefully, the new birds have developed sufficiently to withstand the rigors of the flight south.

I have not seen any juncos yet, but when I do, I will know that winter is coming. The juncos over-winter here and in early spring, they will leave for their northern nesting sites. When the juncos arrive, it signals the end of summer-like weather. At my house, the average temperature has lowered and last week, I turned on my furnace.

The autumn forecasters here are predicting that our fall colors will peak a week earlier than last year. This forecast is based on several factors, all weather related throughout the spring and summer. Our colors normally peak around Oct.1 to Oct 10. This year, it may peak by the end of the 3rd week of September.

I fish often, and the geese are very few to absent from the ponds I visit. Most of the droppings have composted and disappeared which means they left a few weeks ago.

Yesterday I witnessed large bass schooling along the shoreline feeding on bait fish, fattening up for winter.

It's 47 this morning.

Thanks for the input. Jem, I know you are not that far north of where I live. I was mostly surprised to find so many different birds in our yard all at once, just resting and feeding, no squabbling. It felt like a Biblical scene of 'lions and lambs', but just birds, no beasts!

I saw this earlier. Where do birds go in a hurricane? I wonder if some of them changed course because they sensed pressure changes.

We have a lot of hummingbirds right now after the hurricane. There has a been a joke going around Facebook that I found humorous.

After the great flood, God sent Noah a message with a dove. In Texas he used a hummingbird. Because if he had used a dove, it would have been shot and stuffed with a jalapeno and wrapped in bacon. Lol.

Smaller birds group together in our yard too. When a red-tailed hawk appears in the tree, they flee.
