Thank you all for your support. I'm hoping all CF posters were also spared the disaster that Irma could and did inflict.

DC cute...the tree and knife were not damaged at all.

Thank you for thinking of me Madonna.

Perhaps a bad decision but my neighbors (12 families) have hunkered down in our homes.

This may be my last post until next week...I sure hope to be back in touch with my CF friends.

(((Cathy))), The last time I spoke with you Irma was going to the east coast of Florida. Now your area is under evacuation orders. Please check in as soon as possible. Thinking of you and all our Floridians in the wake of this hurricane.

I know once upon a time Cascade was used as a booster on uniforms, I think that was to get phosphates in it. I don't recommend doing that..there's a lot of concentrated sodium carbonate in that and than if you use powder detergent that's too much sodium carbonate. .and liaded this much is caustic. I would for sure do a cool prewash..maybe two followed by a HOT wash with Tide with Bleach powder on the pants and perhaps powder Cheer for the shirts. If you choose to soak them first be sure to prewash until the water isn't too soiled looking, won't help soaking in mucky water.

Make sure and wear rubber gloves when you go to remove the skins. They are that acidic. They do make good jelly, but unlike muscadines cannot be eaten fresh.

Thank you all for your comments, they really mean a lot to me as I heal. 13 weeks of Grief Share was good but certainly not a magic bullet. Annie, the knife story is a really good one. Another was we were having a CF camp and he called saying he was going to starve because he couldn't use the can opener (just a regular handheld). I called my BIL who went over and showed him how to use it. Ellen, BTW the award was for his college coaching...separate from the Mustangs which is our girls travel ball that he started in 1981.

Mustang plum rootstock

Hi there, I'm trying to decide what's the best plum rootstock for my property. I'm in zone 5 Ontario, and my property has clay soil and a high water table. The nursery has a few options for plums: Myrobalan, St. julian A, Mustang and Prunus Americana. I would like to try Mustang but I can't find any information on how it does in heavy and/or wet soil. Has anyone tried planting Mustang rootstock in that type of environment? What is your experience? Thanks

I talked to Cathy around 4 pm, ET. It was raining and the winds were picking up but not horrid yet. Her neighbor and SIL gave her house a once over again and it sounds like she is sealed up tight. With luck and prayer, Irma will go down to a Cat 1, but the trees around her house are still a worry.

I will check in with her tomorrow, and hope she has power.

This is Karen and the following is copied and pasted from "In Irma's path" thread.

I talked with Cathy and all is well! She has no damage to her home with the exception of many tree branches down. She has no power but expects to have power soon. As I was talking to her she was watching her neighbors take the boarding off their windows. Thank you Irma for listening to all the prayers for a downgrade!

Irma hit a terrible blow as it arrived onto Miami and slowly downgraded as it went up the east coast of Florida and will be/is a tropical storm in Cathy's area. We have large storms like this often this time of year and are always ready and able to do what we know to do at a moments notice. This was a serious storm not to be taken lightly but, we know how to function in these circumstances quite well. Whew, it's part luck and partly smarts that get's you through it!

Cathy wanted me to pass on, to you all, that she's ok and to thank everyone for their prayers, thoughts and support!

All is good, thank GOD! No structural damage just no power until this morning a lot of branches. I spent all day yesterday cleaning up the downed branches.

Yard waste people aren't going to be happy-3 piles like this...

mustangs, that pile of branches can be reduced to beautiful mulch in 5 minutes to 1/10 size by a landscape company with a chipper.

What about that tree with a knife imbedded? any damage?

Well goodness (I just looked up and my sister wrote the same thing. HA!)! Looks like you got your trees pruned for free. I'm so pleased it turned out ok with no structural damage.
