space-saving ideas for small plants
Comments (23)> Thinking abt this for indoors? I'd be afraid it'd drip all over the floors, otherwise, it's a cool look! Yeah, the thought occurred to me. Also, the bottom pots will be overwatered and/or the top ones under-watered because the water will be dripping down. Really fast draining mix is a must. Plus, if you hang this on a wall, I suspect mold will develop because of constant moisture and zero air circulation on the wall. I won't go for the idea in practice, but I do like how it looks. > The easy answer of course is to put the containers in plastic bags and then slip them into the "holsters". :) Asleep, what about drainage? Blasphemy! :-) > Joni at SRQ has 4" hanging pots that work remarkably! Teisa, I don't see that she sells them. Does she? I'd love to find a supplier, a wholesale supplier in fact, as I'd buy a couple dozen probably. Small hanging pots are totally in my future, but for now I want the young plants on heat and so grouped is the best I think, so the mix does not dry out....See MorePivot door to water closet to save space
Comments (7)It's too late for a pocket door - it's already been drywalled and textured, with a light switch installed on the wall where the pocket would go. If you google space saving pivot door, you'll see what I mean. Comments (10)jennifer - I am a huge pocket door fan, especially for a pantry. It's a fabulous, functional solution, which also solves the ventilation question, as the door(s) can remain open. You can dress it up with trim work and hardware. I'm linking here to Johnson Hardware, one maker of pocket door hardware. bbtrix - pretty! Edited to add - you could add trim around your current door, and hide that upper 'gap'....See MoreHow To Grow Zucchini Vertically - Save Space Increase Yields 5 Steps
Comments (14)here is Mel Bartholomew view on growing vertical zucchini from the following article organic gardening magazine Feb 1996 p 26. " Sky High Zucchini Yes, zucchini is a high-yield crop all by itself --without any help from us gardeners. But the sprawling plants can take up a lot of valuable garden <u>space<,/u> while producing those stupendous yields. So I train my zucchini plants to grow up a pole--that way I can grow lots of other vegetables in all the space the wildly sprawling zucchini plants would have covered! As an added bonus, vertical growing pushes the plants to produce even more (for those of you who can't get enough) zucchini than it normally would---so you get more zucchini per square You only need 1 square foot to grow your up-lifted zucchini (talk about improvement--- I used to recom- mend giving each zucchini plant a 3 by 3 foot space to sprawl in; that makes this method nine times more efficient!). Drive a wooden pole or metal fence post into the ground inside your square foot, slightly off- center in the square. Then plant one seed(or transplant) right in the middle of that square foot. The plant will be bush-spaced when young. but start vining as it to as it grows. When it starts to to vine, lift up the end of the plant and tie it to the stake. When the vine grows another foot longer, tie it again, and continue to do so every 1 or 2 feet thereafter. I've had zucchini plants grow more than 6 feet tall when I trained them up this way!"...See Moreenduring
