Help with small master bathroom layout

We are in the middle of a whole home gut and remodel. We put the tub in and realized that a large portion of the window is above the back of the tub due to potential water issues. My husband wants to swap the tub and the toilet but I don't like the idea of walking into the bathroom and seeing the toilet right there is not appealing at all to me. Everything is very tight as far as space and we actually extended everything to be able to get a full vanity and full tub/shower. I just can't figure out another layout. Any suggestions?

Do you have room to put the vanity where the tub is shown and move the tub to where the vanity is located in your sketch?

We are also in the process of figuring out a redesign for our master bath so your plans appeared somewhat similar to ours. I would suggest though that if you have the space, rather than a 12" wall cabinet, make your vanity 72" and incorporate the cabinet space into the vanity area. 12" isn't very much room to even put a towel so I don't think it would give you a lot of storage. You could put a knee wall on the side of the vanity and put your toilet on the same wall. Move the shower to the other wall in order to make it larger. Without a tub, I think you have plenty of room for a larger shower.

IMO, the master bathroom is too small. 30" for a toilet (the minimum allowed) and 30" a vanity is tight even for a guest bath. Your closet is huge proportionally. I would take at least 2 feet from the closet to add to the toilet and vanity space (48" vanity and a 36" space for the toilet) because I would much rather be cramped in a closet than feel cramped in the bathroom. You could also take a few inches from the shower. 5' 34" showers are very common and plenty of room if you are not a large person.

If you want a really good design work with an architect and interior designer and do your homework. Figure out and document all of your needs, wants and nice to haves. Study and document your current home and how you live/function in your current space. Document every detail and develop your list of needs/wants/nice to haves. The more information the architect and interior designer know about your needs and how you use space the better equipped they will be at meeting your needs and designing a space that functions well for your family. As for the tub, free standing bath tubs are pretty, but they take up a lot of space because they need clearance all around the tub so you can clean around them. An alcove tub will provide the same functionality and take less space and may be more comfortable. The choice should be left up to the person who will be using the tub. Functionality is far more important than aesthetics.

That was my initial thought! My husband is concerned about the cost of moving the plumbing (we already had the plumbing changed) and we would have to put up a wall at the end of the tub next to the door entrance.

It can be glass at the end...

I get not wanting to see the loo, but I think having a window in your shower will be MUCH more of an aggravation.

Also, have you considered just having a shower?

What type of window do you have now? Have you thought about converting the window to a transom window above the where the shower / tub would be? That way you could still get a lot of natural light from the window but it would not be in the actual line of the tub.
