A new picture and quote?
Comments (53)A "bad comment?" I didn't trash someone's beloved finished room, for heaven's sake. There are many approaches and schools of thought when it comes to decorating. I am in the old school camp- do it once (per house), slowly, replacing things only when necessary. That way isn't superior, it's just mine. I enjoy following others thoughts and processes, but disagree strongly that interest in design and decorating must necessarily equate to love of change. Deedee, I certainly don't think you did anything wrong, and I thought the Shelley quote was funny....See MoreSharing - new home design / building process
Comments (34)Update - using the helpful sign advice on the Kitchens forum - we made some changes to the layout. Ultimately - that resulted in the "eating end" of the island moving to the east / by the fridge, and changing some zones around. As part of that continuing discussion, DH and I decided to swap the great room and the dining room for the following reasons: We can bias the dining table back further and integrate it easier with the kitchen (less steps) We can move the great room to have better views of the courtyard and feel more "snuggled" into the main part of the house. It will also be the place we spend a decent amount of time, closer to the half bath area, closer to screened porch, outside, etc. Moving the dining room closer to the entry allows us to "create" an entry space with either screening furniture or some other "barrier" that won't dump you right into the great room (a room that will be more crowded with furniture and likely to be "less neat" than the dining room) So - thanks for the ideas, we've already incorporated others, and with the kitchen changes, I think we're getting very close to the most livable plan for us. I'll have the plans updated and then we can get our head around the changes and make sure we're not breaking something else by fixing these other issues. Hopefully, crane will be scheduled for 2 weeks from now and we'll have walls in 2 weeks after that!...See MoreJanuary Building A Home Thread
Comments (223)The tile guys started out strong and I was happy bought them energy drinks , Gatorade, sodas I filled up my fridge and said they are welcome to it. Now they are leaving their spaghetti in my bathroom food everywhere I had enough my husband told them that he is so disappointed in the way they are treating our house, he apologized but it has been going on for the last week and they grouted the drain we ended up scraping the grout out and cleaning it. They promised to be done on Sunday. I am putting up signs no smoking no food or drinks in the house....See MoreA thread for the "new year, new you"
Comments (109)Jmck, wise words, I realize that at my age I have to be realistic that I'll never be a hard body no matter how much or how intensely I work out ;). I also like the suggestion to schedule it. I'll try for a weekly plan since things do vary and I can't always do my preferred M-W-F morning workouts. I worked with a trainer for almost a year before I retired and it was extremely helpful. My university had a program in which you could hire grad PT students to do private sessions at our wellness center. I lucked out since the young man I worked with was just great in tailoring workouts to my goals of being stronger and with better balance. His PT skills were a very helpful extra layer of skill. I just have to continue to keep going and keep varying the workouts. Thanks everyone for the helpful feedback!...See MoreSummye
