October 2018 - New Home Build Thread
Comments (247)Exterior paint. Its pretty blue but I think it looks good. The two houses that are closest (and finished) are dark gray and dark blue/gray. We like it a lot. These are from Monday but I guess it was painted on Sunday. The interior paint guys said it was done when the showed up in the morning. They are finishing up the inside paint but are taking their time. They did the basement Monday and part of the 2nd floor yesterday. I'm guessing it'll take them at least until tomorrow to finish upstairs and the main floor but thats just a guess. The builder did say grading and exterior stone would start before the weekend. I hope that happens....See MoreNovember 2018 -New Home Build Thread
Comments (182)Hello all, I have an update for you on my small house (930 SQFT) Roof was finished and I talk about the price of material and labor. Siding on the house is also going up(I show those prices too) so its starting to look like a house now. Please take a gander at the video and consider subscribing to my youtubes :-) I know my "posts aren't typical for this site" but you can see the construction process and you can get ideas from all the pricing of materials and labor that I show, contractors almost never do that. That's the idea behind the channel to show how much things cost so you have an idea what this process looks like. My 930square foot home is tiny compared to most homes on here, and there are some awesome builds in this thread, but wait till you see my next project it will trully be tiny! Come and take a look at me climbing the roof lol. /cheers...See MoreFebruary Building A Home Thread
Comments (294)Ktlou82....Love your cedar posts and the cedar tongue-in-groove. So glad you posted because my DH and I are torn between the white ceiling over the long porch or adding matching cedar like you did. I just showed DH your photo because he’s all about cost and he absolutely said, oh my gosh, yes...we have to do that. Your style porch looks just like ours, do it was a good comparison....See MoreFebruary 2021 Building a Home Thread
Comments (529)I understand, Emily. Lots of hard decisions to make, especially when you’re already retired. 17 yrs ago, we were in the same boat. We both were at risk of losing our jobs and decided against spending the extra $30k to prep for future bonus room and extra bath upstairs. We didn’t do it and I’ve always regretted it. Now, our roof tresses etc would need to be totally redone, so it’s off the table. 17 years later, we are building a detached granny flat that will cost us way more than that. I’ll have to go back and read Brandies comments re screws. I missed that one. Best wishes on your build. I will be glad when this is all over and I don’t wake up multiple times per night worrying about the mistakes i might be making, LOL....See MoreR. C.
