Sewers & Sheets Needed For Hurricane Survivors
Comments (0)Katrina's Angels is having a SHEET's DRIVE!! We are accepting monetary donations and/or gently used or new sheets to benefit people of disaster. Your donation will help our volunteers make comforters and bedspreads to keep people warm and to raise funds for families in need. We have over 100 families registered with Katrina's Angels that we are providing direct relief to (Clothing, Bedding & Household Items). They have all lost everything they owned in the hurricane disasters of 2005, and are so grateful to receive something like this made from loving and caring hands. We would like to put a hand-sewn comforter or bedspread on every adult and child's bed that is on our list, and if you can help in any way, whether that be a monetary donation, donating sheets, batting, or your time and skills, your service will be greatly appreciated by many. For more information please contact: Rayn at freedomrayn@yahoo.com KatrinaÂs Angels is a grassroots group of volunteers nationwide that remain committed to long-term disaster recovery efforts. We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) and among the first registered after Hurricane Katrina. Most Americans have resumed 'life as usual' since the Gulf devastation is no longer in everyday news. Their needs, however, remain painfully real and are mounting with urgency. Recovery is estimated to be a decade or longer by most sources. We are committed to being part of the solution for last years national disasters and those in the future. www.katrinasangels.org...See MoreSending Prayers To Our Friends In The Path Of Hurricane Harvey

Comments (16)I'm sure this is the worst flood in Houston history, but I fear that it could happen again, due to the rising temperature of the ocean and Gulf. It even surpasses the 1979 flood when 43" of rain fell on Brazoria County, and that flood was not as widespread. I was in Houston from 1968 to 1972 while I was at Rice, and most of that time I lived on campus, but I did live on Hawthorne Blvd between Yoakum and Mt Vernon for one year. Howard Hughes grew up on Yoakum a couple of blocks from where I lived. A couple of times when my parents came to visit me, they got stranded by high water in streets, but they had taken the wrong streets. I also remember Hurricane Carla from 1961. Damage from this flood probably exceeds Hurricane Katrina, and it was dubbed the storm of the century - a title which lasted twelve years, I guess. And the Galveston hurricane of 1900 killed almost three times as many people as Katrina. I'm very happy that you were able to keep dry and I know it will take a long time to deal with the devastation around you. People here talk about earthquakes and say they are waiting for "The Big One" as if there will only be one big one, when in fact there are many big ones. They should instead say "the next big one" and understand that once a big one has happened, another big one can happen afterwards. I think the same is true with floods and hurricanes - if it can happen once, it can happen again, and that's why it's so important to be prepared....See MorePony tail palms damaged in Hurricane Harvey
Comments (1)You could wholly remove the inner growing trio of branches,at least the lower two. It would allow the open look. Also- those two stubby trunks on the far left? Take those out,cut flush with the base. Everybody has a different style..so that's just my ways....See Morepudgeder
