DELI MEAT

Growing up, we didn't have what is called deli meat today. If we had a ham sandwich, it was cut from the Sunday ham, same with roast beef, turkey or chicken. It was the second or third meal from the Sunday roast.

Mom did buy salami and bologna and liverwurst (my personal fav) but never turkey, ham or roast beef to make sandwiches with.

So when I grew up and there was these counters that sold thin sliced (shaved) deli meat, it was quite a novelty to me.

We don't eat much of it either -- I think after a day or two it is "slimy" and so I rarely buy it.

Oh, and I buy whole corned beef JUST to make reubens!

Do you like deli meat from the grocery store?
