Do you use different flower forms in bouquets?
Comments (1)Nancy your arrangements are beautiful! For more ideas maybe check out the photoblog by Carolyn Parker. Not every photo is an arrangement but many are and each photo, whatever the subject, is a treat. i think she is the same photographer whose pictures of Red Rose Ridge were posted here last year or the year before. Amazing garden but what took my breath away were the arrangements, huge glorious things, a riot of harmonious color and contrasting flower form. i didn't clip the post but maybe you or someone else did? Comments (12)Hi GG,kept meaning to update you about this but never got 'round to it sorry. Anyway, have to say this is an amazing plant,no-wonder it was 12 years in the making though I think it could be the victim of it's success. It's just so easy to propagate(though obviously a patented plant)I've tried cuttings..soft wood, hard wood & a bit of both and with great success without any special requirements(moisture/heat etc.) As you rightly said the plant did put out strong shoots from the base.I noticed one of these at the back was perfectly upright and vigorous so kept it and removed the others.About 4months later it was 8ft high! It was amazing to think that all you could see was the results of just a few months growth. In autumn I then dug it up and turned it around to bring the new stem to the front. It sulked for a while but never looked under threat. It's flowering now as you can see and I fully expect it to start pushing growth strongly afterwards(it usually does)then I can start deciding about the branching(it's still a bit narrow and upright presently)However now it's quite big it's already like a big dark shadow in the garden, and I know they can become very big,so I'll see if I wish to keep it large or not. Oh yes,I took two of the other strong shoots(about 2'5ftx3/8") and stuck them in 9cm pots on my windowsill...believe it or not they rooted easily!...the photo shows them shortly after taking next to a few normal sized cuttings.I had to put them immediately into larger pots if only to stop them falling over ha. As always, thanks for your advice GG,I really don't know how you find the time to answer all the queries on the forums ...truly a most unselfish act :)...See MoreFlowers, flowers and more flowers... Comments (15)Oh Jodi...quit that! LOL!!! I'm the craziest hippie gardener is the truth. Sometimes I wonder why am I doing all of these. 200 plus of pots of ammies WILL give you flowers almost all year round in this zone. Most of the ones in the group shot are just my ammies from last season coming back from their winter dormancy (not forced). Each variety has their own time table on when to bloom. Some bloom earlier, some later. Your collection will be doing the same next season if you let them go dormant this coming winter. For now, just keep on taking very good care of them as you are. Remember the "After Bloom Care"...What you provide them now will greatly affect their performance next season. I suggest you let them have what's best for them...sunlight. Blanca...Keep up the good work specially with the "little ones". Most probably they might not bloom again this season. It is their growing/leafing out season right now. here in my zone anyway. Provide them with all the caring they need for they will sleep early (specially the Sonatinis), earlier than the large flowered ones. Remember my email to you? Elizabeth...Pink Star is a darling. It only gives out 4 flowers/scape but as I mentioned, it can flower 3 times/year. I just got in some bulbs from RC and in fact had another Pink Star included in it. It is a "pretty in person" variety...lol! Striped Panther...What could I say? Intriguing??? Noid Sonatini shall be named "Vanessa" for now. That's until the Dutch growers register it. Such a beauty deserves a name. There were 3 bulbs of this that came in the first shipment. Raydio and Soultan got one each. I will try to start a thread on the Dutch sonatinis. Our bloomer for today, Aphrodite. After blooming last Fall before it was put to rest, still gives out 2 scapes with huge flowers as it wakes up this season. Very reliable double even if it's flower color is temperature sensitive. Just a reminder: How to have flowers, flowers and more flowers... Comments (9)You're welcome, Dotty :-) There's quite a few hardy hibiscus, several species of which are native to various parts of this country, and a good number of hybrids like 'Fireball', most which behave like herbaceous perennials here. And then there's Rose of Sharon, Hibiscus syriacus, which is a very hardy (zone 5) shrub form. But not native :-)...See Morelavenderlacezone8
