She posted yesterday, I think, in one of the threads. I can't find it now, but she said she lost a lot of what was stored in her garage. Her son is coming on the weekend to help with the heavy lifting.

From what I remember, Lucille is okay. I think she had minimal damage to her house. It was sold 2 weeks ago and she was preparing to move. I think the new owners have lots of support and will be able to fix the damaged garage and driveway.

Hopefully, she will check in with us, but understandably she has a lot on her plate.

Thank You Eld sweety...yes that's what I remember but for some reason I thought she had everything of hers in the garage. I wish she would check in here and let us know she's emotionally feeling any better.

She did lose a lot she had packed for her move and stored in the garage (she said so here, I do not have personal contact with her), and I'm afraid some/much of it would be of sentimental value. That can't be replaced. But her house itself at last note is intact. I send her warm hugs, and I wish her much love and the ability to be able to do what she will or may need to do..., but sentimental things cannot be replaced. Still, I hope she can note the love and caring people have for her as she goes through these days.

Kids and grandchild OK and I am so thankful. But all of my books are gone, tons of stuff ruined. It's only stuff. I stopped sorting. I just can't do anything, it's hard to explain and it is not like me to be so completely apathetic but there it is. And it is physically difficult to pull heavy wet stuff out of the garage. My son will come help on the weekend.

Marilyn and Raven and all of those who lost so much my heart goes out to you. Hopefully better days for us all soon.

I hope she is feeling a little better tonight.

Despite the holiday the trash people are picking up today so my sons are coming over this morning to help drag heavy stuff out of the garage, wet rugs and so on. There is already a big pile of stuff to be thrown away out at the curb. The small refrigerator, oil filled heaters, pressure washer, carpet cleaner and other electric stuff I had stored in the garage waiting for the move will also have to be thrown away. I briefly thought about letting the electric stuff dry out and testing it but then decided that half of my stuff has been destroyed by water, I don't want the remainder destroyed by an electrical fire so out it goes.

Plus there is a ton more stuff that needs to be sorted and a ton more stuff to be thrown away.

I had a couple days I just couldn't do anything, I just could not get up and go into the garage and do the work I knew I needed done.

Finally the day before yesterday I ignored the mess and went and got my hair cut, got an eye exam and ordered new eyeglasses, and bought a few groceries. Yesterday, finally, I started feeling like the real me and I got to work in earnest, hence the pile of trash bags at the curb.

While working outside I got to talk to some of my neighbors, one got more water in his house and lost a huge amount of stuff, another whose house sits higher still lost a bunch of stuff she stored at ground level, she is the only one of us who had flood insurance since this area does not usually flood even in past hurricanes.

I am so proud of my sons, one went to stay with and help a friend who has farm critters like goats and needed help with the animals, the other joined an effort to collect and distribute meals to the firefighters and police in his area of Houston, many who had been working extraordinarily long shifts.

My gardens which were my pride and joy are dying, the plants were under water for days and many of them didn't make it. While the house is no longer mine I still am distressed about the loss. Of course the cannas and other water loving plants are prospering. The yard cleanup will be done in a few days after the garage stuff has been sorted and the garage cleaned.

My sons came over and we spent hours bagging soaked ruined stuff for trash pickup and they helped drag out rugs that were just too heavy for me to deal with.

There were people driving around looking for stuff they might want from people's trash piles. I don't mind as long as they don't leave a mess. But I cut the cords off of the numerous electric items that got submerged- a mini fridge, pressure washer, lamps, heaters, my beautiful Kitchen Aid mixer I scored at a garage sale last year, etc. so that an innocent person does not get sold a damaged item and not know it.

I suspect that used car lots and Ebay will have tons of flood damaged stuff for sale soon, and I have a problem with people selling stuff like cars and toasters and not telling their buyers that the items were under water for days.

Lucille, I am so sorry. What wonderful sons you have.

It sounds like you made some progress Lucille, I hope you have a good nights sleep and feel refreshed tomorrow. Thank you for thinking of unsuspecting people who might end up with damaged products too. Taking it for themselves in hope of fixing it to use is one thing, profiting from selling it would be something else entirely.
