Comments (21)It certainly wasn't a barrel of laughs...! DH did the gut/re-build (framing, sheetrock, spackling...) and He and I painted, but we used our plumber and tile guy for all the plumbing and tile-related work. Your marble and travertine are beautiful--leftover pieces or not. Sometimes you get lucky that way! I'd say your contractor made some nice design decisions on your behalf! Your floor tile in the kids/guest bath (WZ Groove) looks similar to the floor tile we used in our MB--Atlas Concorde Glow Is yours textured? Ours has raised striations in/on the surface that feel extremely nice and very inviting (love walking on it with bare feet!). When I first showed a close friend the sample piece, she said the same thing, and I think our plumber would tear ours up and throw it in the back of his van to take home if he could--he just loved the texture. LOL! I fell in love with the tile because of that, before I was even sure if any of the colors it comes in would work!...See MoreWhy is choosing tile so difficult?
Comments (17)I think tile is the equivalent to 'My Precious'! Which is why we want it to be just right! Not an issue for most, but those of us who frequent GW Bath Forum are a special bunch! :>) Surprisingly, even the tile places don't seem to get it, I think they just want you to make a choice, pay for it, and get out of there! It took me close to 4 years before I found the perfect BS for my kitchen, so I wasn't surprised at how long it took to pick a tile for the BR. I thought I had it all chosen, I was wafflng between two 12" square slate look porcelain tiles for the floor and a quilted white large rectangle (can't remember if it was 12 X 24 or smaller) for the shower walls, and ended up with 12 X 24 limestone looking porcelain tiles for both BR floor and shower walls! I love my tile (see it everyday piled up on the floor in my Main bath, still not installed...sigh). I am SO confident that it is the right choice, just had this nagging feeling in my gut that I wasn't 100% certain of my first one. My advice is to keep going, once you find something you love, be sure to bring home at least 5 tiles (if they are stone or stone replica) so that you can see the colour and pattern variance. My first limestone looking tile had NO variance what so ever! If I had ordered it without seeing 5 samples I would have been SO disappointed!...See MoreSame tiles in bathroom and kitchen?
Comments (4)I don't like using the same tile in both spaces, but that's just me. In my honest opinion I sometimes think that it looks like you just wanted somewhere to use your left over tile. There is so much beautiful tile out there I would want to do something different, but again that's just me....See MoreShower floor tiles
Comments (11)We went from a typical shower floor pan in a previous house to doing a new shower in this house with a 2x2 mosaic shower floor. I agree the tile floor looks better but I wish I could have done the pan without the fear of it being a "bad" choice for resale (plus our contractor in this other area of the country doesn't do much with pans so we stuck with his expertise). Our shower floor is a little more difficult to clean/wipe down b/c our tiles are textured. Having said all that, it is not that much trouble to give a little scrub with dish soap every couple of weeks. I do it at the end of a shower and use a squeegee to slide the water around for a good rinse. Watch out if your tiles are too slippery for this! Or the sprayer from our freestanding tub reaches if I'm cleaning separate from a shower....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
