Decor On A Shoestring-The Bragging Thread:)
OK so there's been a diiscussion..an interesting one..that kinda inspired several of us to think of this kind of a thread.
Whenever someone has a specific question, or a room or a house to discuss, or looks to find something specific, or looks for inspiration or ideas or sharing information about how to do-it-yourself something, in short, any question that would end up being here probably anyway, but that suggests a limited budget. And the hint for their desire to be on limited budget is right here, in the name of the thread.
Whether this someone doesn't have a lot of money, or has it, but you know, has other priorities as well, or plainly gets a kick of( btw everyone's welcome to tell me "April, your use of English is incorrect here and here"..)) ...in short enjoys finding something that's cheap, or old, or cheap AND old..:)..or is talented and crafty and handy to share with others-wow, how did you do that?..
Now, everybody understands "limited" in according to his own needs, wants, and priorities, so pointing out the specific budget is cool, when asking a question. If it's relevant to the question itself.
And of course as always-pictures are extremely helpful.

Other posters will know right away whether the thread is something they'd be interested to participate or not.
So. I just wanted to open the first thread and see how it goes. Right?
And as I don't have any specific question right now..
I decided to dedicate this thread to bragging:)
because I remember one poster saying she bought a sofa for 600$ but wouldn't mention that
I thought-well why not:)
(oh I know the 13 reasons why(c) but I feel like not following them in these threads. Let them be a bit different, in that regard)
so. I'm going to brag about a sofa I bought for 60$..:)
(yes, sixty dollars)
Craigslist of course. And usually while I buy a lot a lot on Craigslist I'm a bit hesitant when it comes to sofas.
But this one was clean. And loked like new. And pink. And velvet! Pink velvet sofa for sixty dollars! I felt like I'm a five year old again-what a great great feeling
and it was lightweight and even fit in the car! (the bigger one)
actually we bought it since we needed to furnish my MIL's apartment
but I was secretly hoping (very bad of me I know) that she won't like it or it won't be comfortable, and then we'll buy her a new sofa and this one, I'll have for myself
Well guess what? she loved it and found it really comfortable, so hers it is
but I still get to brag, don't I?:)
so I don't have pictures of it in her apartment. But I saved the pictures from the ad
(I took a nap on it several times. I approve.)

Well spring has sorta sprung up here, pret'near all the snow is gone, just a few patches on the north side of tree lines and such. Got my first 6 truck loads of yard waste today. Looks like mostly bags of leaves from last fall but some are the grass thatch stuff from peoples lawns. Time to get at 'er I guess. Although they are talking periods of snow for tomorrow. Comments (10)Yes, Marcia the pond is new, started it this spring. I was somewhat holding back on the landscaping around it because most of July was just too darned hot to work in! Thankfully we had cooler temperatures this past week, so I could actually move some rock around without getting heat stroke! The good thing about the tours, is that it gave me the kick in the pants that I needed to get more done than I had ever imagined! You're wise to limit the number of projects beore next summer. Depending on the size of pond you would want to put in, I think a pond is an all summer project. Mind you, I did start out with a tiny one to see if I would enjoy it. It was just half of a rain barrel that I faux finished on the outside with concrete. So a small water feature would definately be do-able for your time line, but I don't want to add anymore to your list ;) Tabardca, I'll try to get some pix of the patio later today. I'm a bit hesitant to post them yet, as I still haven't planted the thyme between them(yes, I admit, I'm a bit of a perfectionist!). I want to make sure the grass is good and dead before I plant. It was,as so often is, a warm florida afternoon when i was trying on the lovely cashmere sweater. I know that noone touched me, it was not 5 minutes , before the next sweater, that i was itching like mad. Which I'm using right now. 7 years agoMy less than $600 couch. Ashley, online, never sat on it before hand. Quite comfortable, my daughter slept on it for a week when she visited. Cheapie cushions, Josh and Main, Ikea throw (not my favorite but the pup doesn't like it much either so it doesn't get torn up lol). And yes, I was the one who said I wouldn't mention my cheap couch.

Ashley chairs less than $75 each, cheapie joss and main cushions, artwork from Ashley, bowl from pier one (bought in Southern California before I moved. The othe painting you can barely see are two originals from a cousin in law of my ex, very abstract and un framed. I do love my tiny dining area.

None of the below items cost more than $40.
I found these two green tables at two different places, on different days, but they're the same exact color. In our den/TV room. I kept the chippy paint because it just seemed right to.
Little wicker coffee table from consignment shop. Cheapo rug from Overstock.
Small cute bookcase in DS' room. Thrift shop.
We scavenged these 3 items -- bureau, mirror, nightstand -- and painted them all the same color for DD's room. Excuse the wonky lamp.
Consignment shop, $20 I think. Already painted.

Got a pair of these chairs on CL, $40 if I remember correctly. Had the cushions recovered.

DH's puzzle table, CL, old Pottery Barn pine table. Chair is from consignment shop.
This wall cabinet came with the house -- freebie. PO made the cabinet for his wife as an anniversary gift. It was in the kitchen but when we renovated, we had to find a new spot for it. It displays mostly "art" made by my kids when they were little.
High end purchase, LOL, from Target. Love these little Threshhold cabinets. We have a white one, too.

7 years agoI love this thread! Our lake cabin was completely furnished (except for beds and major appliances) with CL, thrift store, bargain online shops and garage sale finds. I'm in the middle of finishing our Master Bedroom. Bought this CL headboard for 40.00, the wall lamps were 19.00 each. Small Nightstand was 10, larger one was 20. Yes, I had to paint all the pieces and add a backer board to the headboard, but I am really liking how it has come together.
Before, we paid $40.00 for this
The ceiling is slanted...that dang headboard is level!

7 years agolast modified: 7 years agoI don't have the patience to shop for used furniture, but I have all the patience in the world to scour through the $5 and $10 tables at my local art studio open house. These are from there (the frames cost considerably more than the art).

These were from my daughter's middle school Christmas craft fair. The second one is framed weirdly because I couldn't bring myself to pay for custom framing (it's a weird shape) given how little I paid for the art.

The three county garage sale today. I got 2 sets of the perfect yellow Priscilla curtains. I didn't need them but new if I passed them by I'd regret it. $3 for two pair.
Got this old radio cabinet for $7
the top lifts off but there is no back. The old radio sat inside.
Needs cleaned up but I'm capable of doing that.
This little stand was marked $5 but I got it for $3.50
I think I spent about $15 on stuff I didn't need ;-)

Love seeing everyone's thrifty finds and wanted to share my daughters summer project, turning someone's trash into her treasure. Pulled this desk and chair out of a neighbors trash in the dark of night, crammed it into a Toyota Camry, her Dad fixed a couple of broken pieces and I upholstered the chair seat, everything else was all her. Before and after and at her college apartment. Great job Allison!aprilneverends thanked carolt924 - 7 years agoI re-did this cabinet for youngest DD/DH when they moved into their last home. It was a mahogany finish to begin with, now it's ivory, a light taupe, with antique gold highlighting moldings. They use it as a bar cabinet.
