Jackson & Perkins is horrible, horrible, stay away!

So we have all heard various bad stories about different nurseries but this one just stunned me... I got a Trumpeter tree rose from J&P, ordered it on May 1, it arrived about 10 days later, and this thing has kept its green canes but no signs of breaking dormancy. I kept it watered and babied, with my knowledge that some roses just take longer to start to grow. FYI, I got several other bare root roses on the same order and they have all broken dormancy, grown and bloomed several times. Well, J&P has a 90 day guarantee and as I'd have it, right before that date, the canes on the tree rose finally turned brown and black and so the plant is dead. I had several other bare roots I ordered from J&P on a separate order very late in the season that also didn't grow, so I requested credits for all these roses.
Here's the issue: they approved my requests on all the dead roses except for the tree rose. Why? Because it is rated for zones 7-10 and I live in zone 6! I responded to them that EVERY tree rose on their website is listed for zones 7-10 and that breaking dormancy for a bare root rose is clearly a different issue from winter survival. Nope, they were not having it, they don't guarantee roses ordered outside of their recommended planting zone.
Perhaps I'm being unreasonable, however I strongly feel I am not! Their guarantee is not for the full year, and as so-called rose specialists for decades, they should know that breaking dormancy is a different issue from winter survival. So well, now they get to join Heirloom Roses and Hortico on my list of nurseries I am not doing business with ever again. Good news for Regan Nursery!
